Have you ever looked down at the coins scattered in the water on “it’s a small world” or Pirates of the Caribbean, or maybe even at Cinderella’s Wishing Well, and thought about how there’s likely a small fortune living just outside of reach in the parks? Well, what you may not know is that they don’t go to waste!
Periodically, Disney collects the coins out of the many places guests toss them and totals it all up to then make a donation to a charity! In the past, Disney has given to charities like Give Kids The World Village, which is a non-profit resort that works with The Make-A-Wish Foundation to provide cost-free Disney World vacations for children battling critical illnesses, along with their families. In November of 2020, Disney was able to donate $20,000 (!!) in coins from its wishing wells and fountains and in 2022 that number is even BIGGER!
After collecting coins from Cinderella’s Wishing Well and other waterways around Disney World recently, Disney donated $30,000 to the Give Kids The World Village! YES, $30,000 — that’s a lot of coins! Ali, one of Disney World’s Ambassadors shared the news on Instagram.
Recently, Disney also awarded a $500,000 grant to the charity, so with the two donations combined, the charity says this will help them to “continue making dreams come true for our very special wish families who visit the Village.”
This is one of the many ways Disney World is giving back to the community during their 18-month 50th Anniversary Celebration. Disney cast members also continue to serve Wish kids and their families at the Village through their participation in the 50 for 50 Disney VoluntEARS Challenge which involves Cast Members volunteering 50 hours and attending 50 VoluntEARS events throughout the celebration.
So, go ahead — toss those coins into the fountain! You’ll be helping Disney continue to grow their contributions to Give Kids The World Village and The Make A Wish Foundation. And, as always, stay tuned to DFB for more of the latest Disney news and updates!
