The opening date for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is coming up SOON! It will officially open to all guests on May 27th.
We’ve already been able to go on the ride several times, so we’ve got ALL the details (including a spoiler free review!). The ride will be using a virtual queue system when it officially opens instead of a standby line. And now, we have more details about how the virtual queue will work for the ride!
The virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will work very similarly to how Disney World’s other virtual queues have. Guests will have 2 daily opportunities to request to join the virtual queue — the first will be at 7AM, and the second will be at 1PM.
Guests trying to request to join the virtual queue at 7AM do not have to be inside EPCOT, but they DO have to have a theme park reservation for EPCOT in order to join. If you’re trying to join the 1PM virtual queue, you have to be INSIDE EPCOT. So, you basically need a theme park reservation for EPCOT either way, as you can’t park hop from another park until 2PM.
But, wait — there’s more! New to the virtual queue experience is an additional opportunity to request to join the virtual queue! On select dates when EPCOT has Extended Evening Hours, qualifying guests can request to join the virtual queue at 6PM. Guests who qualify for Extended Evening Hours do NOT have to be inside EPCOT to join the virtual queue at 6PM. You can find out more about who qualifies for this perk here.
These guest do have to have valid theme park admission and a theme park reservation for the same park on the same day to experience Extended Evening Hours. Or, you can use Extended Evening Hours if you have a ticket or Annual Pass with a Park Hopper option and enter the park you have a reservation for.
Remember, the virtual queue is NOT the only way you can get on Cosmic Rewind. It will also be available as a pay-per-ride selection, where you can pay separately to use the Lightning Lane of the ride. There will, however, not be a regular standby line at the attraction at this time.
UPDATE: The virtual queue is now visible in the My Disney Experience app. When you open the app, you should see a Virtual Queue section on the first screen. It now lists information about requesting to join the Virtual Queue at the appropriate times each day.
If you select “Join Virtual Queue” from that first screen, you’ll then get taken to another screen showing the virtual queue information for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. It notes that guests will be able to join the virtual queue at 7AM or 1PM (remember there is a third time to join for select guests eligible for the Extended Evening Hours perk in EPCOT on nights when that is offered).

Can you do the virtual que and pay for the ride? Ride it twice in one day?
Steve says
Good info, thanks guys. So I’ll know, the upside to the queue is not having to pay extra, but the downside is boarding groups are huge and take longer to get onto the ride, yes? By the way, why is the second “ue” necessary in spelling queue?? lol
Thanks!

Truly the best ride on Disney property and second best coaster experience in Orlando behind Velocicoaster. Now hopefully Disney will announce the closure of Space Mountain when TRON opens to gut the inside of the mountain and replace it with a modern launch coaster, ala Guardians or Hagrid’s.
Justin says
Have they announced what it will cost as a pay-per-ride?

Would really like to see DVC members who stay on property get first crack at 7AM booking. The rest of the people could try to book later. Disney needs to give priority to the members who have payed tens of thousands and are the lifeblood of Disney income.
