Refurbishment happens in Disney World, and that can mean anything from big construction changes to minor updates in the parks, hotels, and more!
There’s a lot of new in Disney World right now, like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster that officially opened on May 27th, while other upcoming attractions such as TRON: Lightcycle Run ride and the Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana attraction are still in progress. And so that you don’t get to Disney World surprised by closures, let’s review all the closures coming up next week!
Magic Kingdom
As we’ve continued to report, the Walt Disney World Railroad is still closed in Magic Kingdom, with no reopening date announced yet. This classic attraction has been closed since 2018 due to the construction of TRON: Lightcycle Run near the Tomorrowland train station.
It’s likely that the Railroad will not reopen until construction on TRON is completed, and Disney has not yet announced an opening date for the highlight anticipated coaster. We’re watching closely for more updates about these attractions!
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is still closed, but Disney recently confirmed that the popular salon will reopen sometime in 2022, We’ll be watching for an official reopening date!
Although the Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street, U.S.A. is still closed at this time, we do know that it will officially reopen on July 31st, 2022. Reservations will open on June 28th.
You might be surprised to learn that you can actually get a haircut in Disney World! Book an appointment for an adult or child haircut or even celebrate your child’s first haircut with the “My First Haircut” experience!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Finding Nemo: The Musical remains closed in Animal Kingdom, where it did not reopen after Disney World closed in 2020. The show is getting a big update and a new name and it will debut sometime this summer as “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond!”
Instead of having a Finding Nemo focus, the new show will be based on Disney and Pixar’s Finding Dory!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Voyage of the Little Mermaid has been closed in Hollywood Studios since Disney World reopened in 2020, and Disney has not yet released any details about the future of this show.
The nighttime show Fantasmic! is still closed, but Disney recently announced that the popular show would return in 2022 with updates, new characters, technology, and more!.
Disney has not yet announced an official return date for this show but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more updates!

Disney World Water Parks
When Typhoon Lagoon reopened in January, Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park closed. The “chilly” water park has been closed since then and Disney has not yet announced an opening date.
So if you need your waterpark fix in Disney World, Typhoon Lagoon is open now!

Disney World Hotels
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
200 new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Resort Studios are currently being constructed in the Big Pine Key building at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The hotel is still open for guests, but you might encounter this construction depending on where your room is.
The new DVC rooms are scheduled to open in late June 2022 and they will have a Mary Poppins Returns theme. If you want to stay in one of them, you can already reserve a room for the future!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also in the beginning phases of construction of a new building of DVC villas, which will be located on the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon.
The new building construction resulted in the permanent closure of the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. We will likely see the completion of these new villas in late 2024.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds
Finally, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is reopening at Fort Wilderness! This popular dinner show has been closed since 2020.
Reservations opened on May 26th, 2022 with showtimes beginning on June 23rd.
