What’s one of the most DIVISIVE things that could happen to you in Disney World? A ride evacuation, for sure! Confused? Allow us to explain!
For some people, getting evacuated from a Disney World ride can absolutely ruin the day, especially if you’ve got a dining reservation to make, you waited in the queue for an extended period of time, or it’s your first time experiencing the attraction. However, for other people…it’s a dream come true! You get the chance to see a little behind-the-scenes action, and it can honestly be pretty fascinating. Recently, we got evacuated off of one of Disney World’s newest rides, and we thought you might want to see what it’s like!
Recently, we were taking a spin on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Hollywood Studios when the ride suddenly stopped. We remained in the vehicles for several minutes, it went dark, the lights then came on, then the animations stopped. After a little while, Cast Members came with step stools to get the guests out of the ride vehicles.
This portion was interesting because (at least to us) the walls were deceptively curved in this scene, so we nearly fell down!
When it was time to exit, the Cast Members led us backward through the ride, walking through each scene. We got to see the rooms with the lights on and the various animations turned off, which was a really unique experience!
Once we got back to the first park scene of the ride, we got to walk to a different exit than the traditional exit. We could actually see the loading platform on our way out. (Everything was empty, which was a little spooky!)
We were told that one ride vehicle had stopped responding, causing them to shut down the rest of the ride for a reboot. Everyone who was evacuated was given a free Lightning Lane pass for the next day since we were evacuated in the evening.
Personally, we find it really interesting to walk through the ride sets and see what everything looks like with the lights turned on! It’s one of those unique experiences that few guests get to have. What a memory to have from your vacation!

We were on this ride. In fact that is my daughter’s back and bag pictured above. The cast were great in handling the situation and we all had a good chuckle singing ‘Nothing can stop us now!’ while we waited to be evacuated.
We looked for you guys all day while we were there. Have a couple more pictures of you would like them.

Wonder how they would handle evacuating someone with mobility issues??? Not totally disabled but not very steady on their feet without a cane or a walker????

I remember my first time on Space Mountain-I was bullied by friends to see the big chocolate chip cookie at the end of the ride. The lights came on and we were stranded at the top for what seemed like an eternity. That’s one ride you don’t want to see the lights on. Scaffolding up to the sky!

I was in Disneyland earlier this month. On my first day I rope-dropped Rise of the resistance and the ride went down at the very end, where you see Beck just before getting off. The whole ride was down so they evacuated us out the back of the room where our car was and gave everyone on the ride a lightning lane to do it again that day.
Two days later I was rope dropping the Fantasyland rides with no Genie + and Alice In Wonderland went down about halfway through so I was evacuated from that one too.
I came close to being evacuated from Space Mountain later that day. It had gone down while I was in line for it. It came back up and I rode then heard an announcement that it was down again and I think they ended up evacuating that one.
After several trips to Disneyland and many to WDW, I had never been evacuated from a ride before. It was kind of exciting but did cost a bit of time waiting to be taken off the rides.
