One of Disney World’s newest shows has already changed in a major way!
Disney KiteTails, the show featuring giant kites from The Lion King or The Jungle Book, debuted in October 2021 in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Despite being less than a year old, Disney recently announced plans to change the show, which resulted in shorter but more frequent shows. Now we have a few more details about this change so that you can be sure to catch KiteTails during your next visit!
Not long ago, KiteTails switched to walk-by viewing rather than seated showtimes in the Discovery River Amphitheater. You can now catch your favorite kites from several spots around the Discovery River Lagoon more frequently, but there are no set showtimes, and there is no longer a pre-show.
We recently spoke with a Cast Member about this new form of KiteTails and we were told that you can generally catch snippets of what used to be the full KiteTails show every 20 minutes around the Discovery River Lagoon daily between 9:10AM and 3:10PM. During our recent visit, we observed performances that were around 5 minutes or less, but they were basically mini versions of the previous show (which was around 10 minutes long).
Most of the guests in the area stood around the water to catch the shows but you can still sit in the Discovery River Amphitheater for the shortened performances. We still heard favorite tunes like “Hakuna Matata!”
If you’re hoping to catch a KiteTails performance, you can expect to see one every 20 minutes or so around the Discovery River Lagoon! Keep following DFB for more Disney news and updates!

I recently took a survey from Disney about my visit to AK and one of the questions related to Kite Tales. I told them that if they expected people to sit out there in the blazing hot sun, unprotected by any shade, to watch that short unimpressive show they were kidding themselves. The measly attendance was a sure sign that it wasn’t going over well.
Bring in Scar with some sinister music. You need the yin and yang of emotion to feel something from the performance. Make it a worthwhile show to sit out there in the heat for or do this more casual approach to make it just a little something extra to see.
I think they did the latter and probably a good move for now anyway.

Disney needs to do a slow dissolve of this show into oblivion as one that did not work. Why not put Minnie and Mickey on water ski’s and parade them around the lake. They need something new and improved that will keep you glued to your seat or stop you in your tracks. This ain’t it

I didn’t even know that there was an amphitheater until Kite Tails. They should do something impressive or it’s just a waste of space. However, we did enjoy Kite Tails last October – it was not blazing hot and the 10 minutes of sitting was a great little break.

It would seem that Disney is too busy thinking up new ways to charge their “consumers” and reduce services to put any energy into being creative and or innovative shows. So sad what Disney has become. The magic is gone and you can’t find the pixie dust anywhere.

Just do away with it
