We’ve been watching the construction of the upcoming Magic Kingdom ride, TRON Lightcycle Run, for some time now!
Located in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, this ride will be similar to the TRON ride in Shanghai Disneyland, and lighting will be a huge part of the ride experience. The canopy of the coaster will feature shifting light panels that change the ride experience from day to night, and today we have an update!
You can check out the construction progress of TRON Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom, where the canopy and ride tracks seem to be nearing completion. We have not, however, seen any lighting effects yet.
On Instagram, Walt Disney Imagineering posted some looks at TRON Lightcycle Run with nighttime lighting! This means they’ve hit a “project milestone” as the Show Lighting team has begun testing lighting on the canopy of the ride.
In TRON language, the canopy is known as the “Upload Conduit” and guests will be known as “Users.” The “Users” will race Lightcycles underneath over 1,200 light fixtures across the canopy.
According to Walt Disney Imagineering, both the canopy and the exterior plaza will continue to progress throughout the next few months as Imagineers upload and integrate “additional show elements.”
We still don’t know when TRON Lightcycle Run will open in Magic Kingdom, but we have been watching construction progress closely. You can get a good view of the construction during a ride on the PeopleMover, and recently we’ve seen ride vehicle testing taking place.
But if you’re in the mood for a brand new ride in Disney World right now, look no further than Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT! This indoor rollercoaster just opened on May 27th, and it takes riders through an intergalactic journey on ride vehicles that can spin 360 degrees.
We’re excited to see TRON progressing and we’ll be watching for more news and updates regarding this highly anticipated ride. Keep reading DFB for more Disney World news!
