Lightyear is officially in theaters, y’all!
The film has already scored BIG at the box office, and we even learned that Disney consulted with NASA on the movie (how’s that for realism?)! Disney’s giving away a free Lightyear Collectible Key online, and new Lightyear merchandise has arrived both online and in the parks. Now, though, Buzz is meeting with guests in Disneyland…but there’s something VERY different about him… .
Okay, so we’ve all seen Buzz in the parks before, right? We’re used to seeing him like this — Andy’s toy in the Toy Story movies!
But today, as we were waiting to meet Buzz, we noticed something VERY different about him.
‼️He’s here‼️

Um…Buzz Lightyear is now a FACE character in Disneyland! Just as a note, you can still meet “toy” Buzz at Disneyland Resort as well.
Okay, so maybe we get Disney’s reasoning behind this. Lightyear tells the story of the REAL Buzz Lightyear that inspired the toy that Andy gets in Toy Story. So Disney thought, “Hey, we’ll make him a real person in the parks.”

Needless to say, a lot of Disneyland guests are a little confused, though. We mean, it’s not the first time we saw Buzz get an update, but we’ve personally never seen him as a face character before. Many guests were doing a double take and honestly unless you look closely, you might be confused about who you are meeting!
We are torn on the new meet and greet and aren’t sure if we love it or not. So we would really love you thoughts? Is this the coolest thing ever, or do you prefer classic Buzz? Please let us know!
If you’re wanting to meet the new Buzz, he’s going to be in Tomorrowland in Disneyland at the top of every hour until 4PM.
For all you huge Buzz Lightyear fans, be sure to catch Lightyear in theaters, and don’t forget to enter Disney’s BIG Lightyear giveaway — you could win a chance to design your own shoes with the company that inspired the shoes Buzz wears in the movie! If you want to know more about Lightyear, Chris Evans (who voices the character in the new movie) recently offered up some details for fans of the character.

Dr. M says
Yuck…Disney just keeps on disappointing.
Don Glover says
Costume and casting department fails.
Tracy Miller says
I think once the movie comes out, people won’t be so confused (hopefully)! It only makes sense they bring him to the parks in human form! 🙂
Jill says
100% classic Buzz. I’m not seeing the movie, I wished they stopped at TS3, but Disney has to run every franchise into the ground as long as they can squeeze money out of it.
geometrix says
No sir, I don’t like it!
Larry says
No No No No.
That’s all I can say.
Nicole says
Nope. It’s like your next door neighbor’s oldest son dressed up in a Party City astronaut costume. Stick with classic cartoon Buzz for pics!
Jina says
Poor cast member 😩😩 this is a definite miss
Glory says
Most definitely not! Nothing in that costume it right. Buzz being a favorite from childhood, and I was so into the cartoons the used to have. We always where jumping off stuff while saying “To infinity and beyound!” And zooming around! But this is a huge no! I was thinking of seeing the movie, but after what they did to that movie and what they did to the image of our most beloved Buzz, I will not support it. And this is technically supposed to be child friendly, though the last couple movies they seem to be forgetting what that even means.
I’ll stick to the REAL Buzz Lightyear, thank you! Always To infinity and beyond!
Seth says
A face character of Buzz could work, imo, but they need to dress him to actually look like Buzz. If you had just shown me the image without having told me that’s what he is, I’d just guess he was a generic astronaut. I mean, come on, at least give him his iconic colors!
Gillian says
They should have kept his classic and very iconic colors for his space ranger suit. Hopefully they make that update.
