Well, we didn’t expect to find a devil on our treat in Disney World, but here we are.
Friar’s Nook at Magic Kingdom has a few menu items right now that nod to a throwback ride — Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. This attraction has been closed at Disney World for more than 20 years, but the Nook is honoring its legacy as part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. You can get a Wild Toad Brat Burger here, or try the Wild Ride slushy. There used to be a Mr. Toad’s Dome Cake here as well, but now it’s been REPLACED by something a little more sinister.
The Devil’s Chocolate Mousse Cake has replaced Mr. Toad’s Dome Cake at Friar’s Nook, although it costs the same at $7.99. This new treat is Crumbled Devil’s Food Cake, Chocolate Mousse Pudding Mix, Milk Chocolate Whipped Cream, and Chocolate Pearls. It’s all topped with a white chocolate decal that has a devil on it!
If you haven’t been on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride before, you might still be wondering what a devil is doing on this treat. You should know that this ride was genuinely what it promised to be: WILD. There was a scene in the ride where guests would pass through hell (yes, that was literally the setting) and little devils would point pitchforks at them.
Did we want to be reminded of that scarring childhood experience today? Maybe not…but at least the treat tasted good!
We thought the mousse cake was simple but very tasty, with a rich flavor and light texture. The pearls added a bit of a crunch, which was fun. The cake crumbles at the bottom were a little dry (almost like cookie crumbles instead), but paired with the pudding they tasted great.
This is a perfect dessert for kids or pickier eaters, as it has very basic flavors without any surprises. We thought the portion size was a little bit small for the price, but that was pretty much our only complaint.
If you’re looking for a more interesting treat, you won’t have to go far! There are a LOT of new treats in Disney World right now. Just today, we’ve tried a treat that is basically our childhood memories in edible form and a new cookie flavor at one of our favorite bakeries — Gideon’s Bakehouse!
Remember that the Flower & Garden Festival is wrapping up in EPCOT on July 4th, and the Food & Wine Festival will begin shortly after that on July 14th! Starting then, there will be even MORE new eats to try in that park.
