Flying has been a bit difficult in recent months, and it seems as though more and more airlines are showing signs of struggle.
There have been a ton of flight cancelations due to staffing issues, weather, COVID-19, and more. Some airlines have cut down on their routes, and now, one airline is stopping its route to Orlando completely.
Hawaiian Airlines will be suspending its service between Honolulu and Orlando beginning on September 7th, according to WKMG.
Hawaiian Airlines said this change is due in part to staffing issues and current fuel prices, according to a senior director of public affairs for Orlando International Airport. People booked on flights after September 7th will be getting refunds.
Airlines have been struggling with staffing issues, including a pilot shortage that has been causing flights to be delayed and canceled. Hawaiian Airlines is not the first airline to take away routes recently — Delta Airlines said in May that they would be removing 100 flights per day this summer.
American Airlines also recently announced that 4 cities would be losing service from the airline — Islip, NY; Ithaca, NY; Toledo, Ohio, and Dubuque, Iowa. Each city will lose the service on September 7th.
JetBlue Airways also said they were planning to cut some of its summer schedule in an attempt to avoid too many flight disruptions. So, it seems like even though the summer is a busy travel season, the travel options are becoming more and more limited.
But, we have learned about which airlines are confirmed to be in the new terminal in Orlando International Airport, including Aer Lingus, Emirates, Icelandair, JetBlue, and Lufthansa, among others.
The new terminal at the Orlando Airport is scheduled to open on September 19th of this year. It will include a new look, restaurants, stores, and more.

We live in Hawaii. My family had booked through Hawaiian Air back in Oct of last year to fly out to WDW at the end of this coming Sept. A generic email from Hawaiian Air was sent last week to us, with no options offered by them to rebook through a partner airline or otherwise. It left my family scrambling with 80+ days to find flights. We had already fully booked our stays at Pop and Galactic Starcruiser, and we weren’t planning to cancel all of that. Very disappointed in Hawaiian Air, not even, at the very least, offering a coupon to fly with them again. Hawaiian Air should have fulfilled the reservations already made and not plan on offering dates after a later point. As expected, this late in the game, the prices we paid for our replacement flights were nearly $300 more per person due to the spike in oil prices that we originally did not have to factor in when we first booked with Hawaiian Air.

I’ve been following your blog since my Disney World booking. I’m concerned about flight cancellations and wanted to get your input. I’m bringing my son, his wife and 3 grandchildren in September. I’ve booked our flights with fly silver airways from Pensacola, FL to Orlando. Should I be worried ??

Hi Darlene! I would reach out to them directly to see if they have any plans to change their flights just to be on the safe side.
