There’s one question we’ve asked ourselves over and over again: When will the TRON rollercoaster FINALLY open in Magic Kingdom?
When will the TRON coaster finally open?
The TRON: Lightcycle Run rollercoaster was announced way back in 2017 and was supposed to open in time for the start of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, but this was delayed due to the pandemic-related park closures in 2020. Since the rollercoaster was announced, we’ve seen several new rides open like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (both located in EPCOT). When we were in Magic Kingdom recently, we decided to take a spin on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover to look at the construction progress for the new ride. Here’s what we saw!
Aside from being a good ride to kick your feet up and relax for a few minutes, the PeopleMover offers great views of the TRON construction. We hopped aboard to take a look what’s going on.

We can definitely see that progress is being made, but it also looks like there’s still quite a ways to go before this ride is finished. The canopy for the ride looks to be pretty much completed, however, and most of the construction that we can see is happening on the ground.

We also saw some construction happening over by this tunnel, which is the tunnel that the Walt Disney World Railroad train (which is currently closed) will pass through when it reopens.

It looks like there’s some digging happening and construction occurring on the ground beneath the ride.

We’re also curious about some construction that is happening nearby, over by the Space Mountain gift shop, Tomorrowland Light and Power Co. It looks like changes might be made to the exit of the shop.

Progress is being made on TRON! The rollercoaster has recently been seen testing, and Disney even shared a video of the first full-speed launch. We’ve also seen the coaster’s canopy lit up at nighttime.

Disney also recently shared more details about the theme and plot of the ride. When they go inside the queue, guests are meant to feel as though they are being shrunk and digitized to take part in a Lightcycle race. The ride itself is a Lightcycle race; guests are on Team Blue and are racing against Team Orange. Disney still hasn’t shared an opening date for this ride.
