Have you dealt with a flight delay on your way home from Disney World recently? If so, you’re not alone!
Summer is typically a busy season for travel, and we’ve definitely felt that in a few ways lately. Between big crowds at the parks and long lists of flight delays and cancellations, things have been pretty hectic in Orlando this summer. And it turns out that there’s evidence to back up our feeling that flying out of the Orlando International Airport has been extra tricky recently.
According to CNN, US airlines have canceled more than 100,000 flights so far this year, including 30,000 cancellations just since Memorial Day weekend.
On top of those cancellations, there have been even more flight delays to contend with. FlightAware data shows that U.S. airlines have had over 820,000 delayed flights in 2022 so far. And a large number of those delays happened at Orlando International Airport (MCO).
FlightAware compiled data to see which airports have experienced the highest percentage of delays this summer. The results show that Orlando International Airport is #2 on the list of U.S. airports with the highest percentages of flights delayed, with a total of 33% of flights from the airport experiencing delays this summer.
The only U.S. airport with a higher percentage of flights delayed this summer is Chicago Midway International Airport, at 36%.
