Disney+ is constantly getting new content!
We’ve seen countless new Disney and Pixar films, not to mention a BUNCH of Star Wars and Marvel series that were incredibly popular. This week, some more adult content arrived on the family-friendly platform with three R-Rated movies. Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan are now available to stream, but one of the film’s stars had a very unexpected way of announcing their arrival.
In honor of the occasion, Ryan Reynolds (who plays Deadpool) posted to Twitter, sharing that he was “supposed” to announce that the first R-Rated movies were coming to Disney+. However, Reynolds had some thoughts about classic Disney movies to share…he thinks that some of them should’ve ALREADY been R-Rated for “irreversible trauma.”
We’re supposed to announce Logan and Deadpool will soon be the first R-rated movies on Disney+. But we all know some Disney movies should already be rated R for irreversible trauma. pic.twitter.com/FoIbiwKhiG

Reynolds specifically calls out movies like The Lion King, Old Yeller, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Bambi for being too adult, thanks to content including mauling and “cold-blooded killing of an innocent deer mom.” And we’ll be honest — he might have quite a bit of support on these.
Can you guess what Disney movies he’s referring to in these posts?
A problem for dog lovers…this reference is an obvious one and just thinking about this movie hurts. 😢
It’s a wonder we turned out to be such well-adjusted adults after watching Scar murder Mufasa over and over, tbh. Thankfully, now we’re old enough to look back on it and all laugh together in our shared Disney-induced trauma. Our favorite part of this tweet? When Ryan Reynolds says that Bambi should NOT be approved for all audiences because, and I quote, “therapy is not cheap.” That’s #relatable right there.
And even after all that, we turned out to be huge Disney fans. 😆 We don’t know what that says about us, but we’ll happily still watch (some of) these films over and over…just with a box of tissues by our side!

LOL, have to agree but would also like to add Tarzan to that list. Pleanty of animal cruelty, and they show a man hanged to death at the end (sure its a shadow outline but YOU CAN TELL!) Had to lie to my neffew about that part at the end.
LAWEDTENN says
LOL…He has a point. To this day, I still can’t watch The Fox and the Hound. Just too depressing. I saw it in theaters as a kid. scarred me for life.
SD says
Whatever Ryan Reynolds- you’re trying to justify the fact that R rated movies are ok for coming to Disney. And shame on Disney.
No wonder Disney stick keeps losing ground & families keep canceling their trips to Disney and subscriptions to Disney TV. Walt would be appalled at what the Disney company and name has become.
Greg says
I’m not sure if this is a swipe at Disney or not. But films are rated by the the Classification and Ratings Administration, via a board of independent group of parents.
So I’m not sure what the point is, other than Ryan Reynolds is maybe thinking a bit too hard.
Carol Tricarico says
Hollywood should keep their political and liberal opinions to themselves. They have too much influence. Children who see these movies (I don’t think they have hidden agendas or are too violent) don’t interpret them as such. It is just a cartoon movie telling an innocent story to them. I saw all the classics and recent movies and I grew up just fine. Eniugh already!!!!
Eloni says
Haha….yawn
Darlynne says
He’s not wrong.
Mary says
Ryan Renolds is 100% correct!
Mary Kosloske says
Ryan Renolds is absolutely correct! Mother’s being killed, father’s being killed… and the list goes on!
Dottyanna says
Mothers get a bum rap too. They are either non-existent or die way too young. I would love to see them correct that with a great, strong, nurturing mother in future Disney films.
Elizabeth Pokoly says
Cartoons or animated films have a rating that is or has been different from other movies. Sometimes I think we over think else things. Care givers or parents should discuss and or review esp with more and more home viewing.
K. Sullivan says
Bambi was a deer and people hunt deer. Every kid growing up in the 50’s and 60’s knew this. It’s part of life.
The worst Disney movie scene is the judge singing about his lust and burning people alive in Hunchback of Norte Dame, WTH?
Lorraine Pollachek says
RR needs to get a grip.
Eric W Kuntz, MD says
Unfortunately, or rather historically, I must disagree. Anyone who has read a Grimm’s fairytale, of childhood cannibalism (Hansel and Gretel), along with child abuse (Cinderella – yes also a Disney classic but actually toned down), dancing to death, wearing molten iron shoes, etc. knows that abject cruelty is rampant in Children’s literature. The fact is that the mind of a child uses fantasy and play to work through serious issues. The child psychiatric literature often writes about this in play therapy cases, but also in normal child’s play. Rather than list them as R, we need to engage are children in processing what they see and experience. To a child who has lost a loved one, “old Yeller” is a movie they often cite as helping them process their feelings of loss and grief (Old Yeller) and – just as important – recovery (the puppy). Confession time, I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist with over 35 years of practice, who does play therapy and play analysis, and often incorporates discussions of movies in my work.
RickTR says
Do you really think a guy who plays Deadpool is being serious?
Silver Bambi says
There is a something a little different than Bambi & Old Yeller than a swearing sexualized violent show of Deadpool . So not even comparable, so I like someone else said , it’s RR trying to justify adding Deadpool to D+.
SS says
You cannot compare any Disney movie to the Deadpool “love” scenes. That is why it doesn’t belong on Disney+.
Kaila says
I agree with Rick. Rr’s post is sarcastic, a aarcastic look back for adults who saw these films when they were little. No one is literally suggesting they be rated R for those tough scenes.
Chris says
And how bout Coco? A murder!
Kristin says
Anyone who knows and follows Ryan Reynolds knows this is tongue in cheek. Lighten up, Disney lovers! It will be okay!
Anyway, I appreciate that Disney + now has rated R movies. If you are concerned about that, you can make a new profile and have that one eliminate anything R rated. It’s super easy.
Dave G. says
Disney and the “R” Rating, Fascinating! Most everything about Disney has been distorted over the years. I am not sure what Mr. Disney would think about it company now. Start your day with the original “Mickey Mouse Club” and end it with “Deadpool”, from wholesome to vulgar.
That said, this is just publicity for the movies coming on the streaming service. Most actors get royalties when their movie is shown/viewed so RR is probably trying to dial up a few more dollars for himself.
