MagicBands may be getting a major update soon but you don’t HAVE to make the upgrade to the new MagicBand+. In fact, there are suddenly a bunch of new classic MagicBands selections to choose from.
MagicBands are a wearable technology that connect to the My Disney Experience app, and as long as you have an account and set up all your experiences, you can access your theme park tickets, Annual Pass, Disney World hotel, credit card, and more. Although the MagicBand+ will feature new offerings you can still get a classic MagicBand and there are some NEW designs you might be interested in!
MagicBands allow you to gain entrance into Disney World parks (with valid admission), access your hotel room, charge purchases to your room, enter Lightning Lanes, and plenty of other convenient things. And now on shopDisney, interestingly just days before the new MagicBand+ release, there are over 10 NEW MagicBand designs to choose from!
The sudden release of all these classic MagicBands so close to the MagicBand+ launch is an…interesting choice. MagicBands have been impacted by supply chain issues, so it’s possible that the sudden release of so many newer bands online is an indication that supply chain issues with regard to this item have eased somewhat. We even saw shopping limits lifted for many items in Disney World recently — another indication that supply chain issues could be easing for Disney.
Still, it does seem to be a strange choice to drop SO many new classic MagicBand designs when MagicBand+ will be available in the parks and on shopDisney on July 27th — just days from now.
This release could be seen as support for Disney’s previous statements that the introduction of MagicBand+ does not necessarily signal the end of classic MagicBands. Or it could serve as an indication of Disney attempting to release and “get rid of” their stock of MagicBands so as to give them the ability to later focus more on MagicBand+.
Regardless of the reasoning behind this sudden drop, classic MagicBands aren’t going away simply because MagicBand+ has arrived. In other words, you’ll still be able to use your classic MagicBand on upcoming trips. But, of course, things are subject to change in the future.
Let’s run through a few of the MagicBand designs that were NEWLY released online, and then talk a bit about MagicBand+ (you can scroll further to the bottom for that!).

What makes MagicBand+ so special? Well, it will still do all of the things you are used to doing with your classic MagicBand — open your hotel room door, allow you to scan your pass at the parks, etc. But it will also do some exclusive NEW things.
First, MagicBand+ will have special lights that you will be able to change and customize.
It will interact with nighttime fireworks shows in some parks and even the Beacons of Magic, synchronizing certain light effects and more with the in-park celebrations.
MagicBand+ will also be able to interact with the 50th Anniversary golden statues in the parks and unlock a special scavenger hunt.
Plus, those with a MagicBand+ will be able to join the Batuu Bounty Hunters Guild and go on special adventures in Galaxy’s Edge to collect credits.
Basically, buying MagicBand+ will let you unlock certain exclusive experiences and interactive opportunities.

GL Josh says
Well it makes cents (pun intended) for Disney to still sell the regular Magic Bands, they have been designed, produced, and not everyone will jump at the updated bands.
Richard+Mercer says
Hedging their bets by keeping the old ones?
Regardless I’m glad to see it. I have no interest in the fancy-dancy new ones.
