Disney World is undergoing some massive transformations, and some of those changes are taking BIG steps forward.
We’ve seen ride testing underway at the TRON attraction, training begin for the reopening of the Walt Disney World Railroad, huge updates on the Moana attraction, and more. But now we’ve got ANOTHER update!
Disney’s BoardWalk is getting some big changes in the upcoming months. First up, changes will be made at the BoardWalk Inn. Those changes will include some lobby redesigns, room upgrades, and a new coffee shop.
The BoardWalk is also getting a new spot called the BoardWalk Deli. This new restaurant will take the place of BoardWalk Bakery and will feature hand-pipped cannolis, house-made bagels, and all kinds of sandwiches. BoardWalk Bakery has already closed in anticipation of this change. BoardWalk Deli will open in the summer of 2022.
But those aren’t the only changes being made at the BoardWalk. Also coming to this spot is the NEW The Cake Bake Shop from Gwendolyn Rogers!
This new table service restaurant and bake shop will feature savory and sweet menus, an afternoon tea service, and ALLLLLL kinds of cake, cookies, and more!
We’ve already shared why this spot could be THE place for bridal showers and special events, and we even got an EXCLUSIVE interview with Gwendolyn Rogers herself to get some insider info about the upcoming spot.

But now we’ve got an update! In a post on Instagram, the Cake Bake Shop and its owner, Gwendolyn Rogers, shared that they are “another step closer to opening at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort.” The new shop is set to open in 2023.
The photo shows Gwendolyn Rogers in front of the former location of the ESPN Club, with a sign that says “The Cake Bake Shop — Coming 2023.”
This seems to further confirm that The Cake Bake Shop will be taking over at least part of the ESPN Club’s former location on the BoardWalk. We recently saw that the big weights and other signage from the ESPN Club had been removed from this location. It seems work here is moving right along as it transforms into the new home of The Cake Bake Shop!
We cannot wait to see what The Cake Bake Shop brings to Disney’s BoardWalk, and check out alllll of those sweet and savory treats.

I am so excited for this and know it will fit in at the Boardwalk petfectly as the ESPN place never did.

My family and I have fond memories of ESPN. My sons and I really enjoyed watching playoff games and meeting other families with similar interest. Disney needs to think more about family memories and less about calories…this will go the same way other flash in the pan ideas have at Disney. The Boardwalk area needs another place for families to gather and enjoy good food and entertainment.
Have a great day!
