Today is a very big day in Disney World! Why? MagicBand+ has finally been released!
We’ve already brought you information about how the new MagicBand+ will be priced (and how you can get a discount on it, too!), plus details about how to set up your new band, and how you can use the MagicBand+ in the parks. One of the new features of MagicBand+ is a game called Batuu Bounty Hunters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Today, we’re heading over to the park to give it a try!
Firstly, in order to play the game, there are a few things you’ll need. You will need, of course, the new MagicBand+ and you will also need to have the the most recent version of the Play Disney Parks app downloaded on your phone. Once you have those things, you’re good to go! The instructions for the game are located inside the Play Disney Parks app, and are also posted around Galaxy’s Edge.
When you’re ready to get started, open the Play Disney Parks app and head to the bounty board located in Galaxy’s Edge. The bounty board is located near Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Once you get to the bounty board, you’ll tap your MagicBand+ to the board to get your job assignment.
Once you’ve gotten your first assignment, you’re off on the hunt! Our target was BO-LT or “BOLTS” who was wanted for “illegal self-modification with blast shield and reprogramming.”
As you move around Galaxy’s Edge, your MagicBand+ will start flashing one of three colors, green, red, or purple. If it’s flashing red, that means you’re moving away from your target.
If your MagicBand+ flashes green, that means that you’re getting close to your target!
When your MagicBand+ turns purple, that’s how you know that you’ve located your target!
All of the targets are hiding behind doors around Galaxy’s Edge. When the MagicBand+ turns purple, you will tap your MagicBand+ to the scanner on the door, which will activate the thermal scanner in the Play Disney Parks App. You’ll then be able to identify the target and get your bounty!
There are 20 targets that you can find in total, and the process is the same for each one, but you don’t need to find each bounty if you don’t want to. When we visited Galaxy’s Edge, there were Cast Members around the starting point available to help guests and answer questions. Overall, we had a really good time playing the game!
Another feature of the MagicBand+ is the Fab 50 Quest which will enable you to go around the Disney World parks and interact with each of the 50th Anniversary golden statues! MagicBand+ will also interact with the Disney World nighttime shows — Enchantment in Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at EPCOT by lighting up and vibrating along with the shows.
