Disney World vacations involve a LOT of planning. You need to get park tickets and park pass reservations, decide the best way to travel to the parks, make dining reservations, and choose a hotel. And even once you’ve done all that, you’re STILL not finished!
One of the most fun parts about visiting Disney World is going on rides and visiting the various attractions throughout the parks. So it can be very disappointing if you arrive at a certain attraction only to find out that it’s CLOSED. To help you plan for any of these closures, we’ve got a complete list of what’s going to be closed in Disney World in August!Â
Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World Railroad
The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for a long time in this park, and its closure will continue through all of August. We’ve seen some promising signs that this ride could reopen soon, such as ride engine testing and Cast Member training, but Disney still has not announced a reopening date.
Part of the reason this ride has remained closed is construction over in Tomorrowland on the upcoming TRON: Lightcycle Run rollercoaster. We’ve spotted a tunnel in this area where the train will likely run through once the ride is finished, and recently some tracks appeared in that tunnel as well.
Disney hasn’t announced an opening date for TRON, but we’re expecting the Railroad to reopen once construction on the coaster is complete.
Enchanted Tales with Belle
Enchanted Tales with Belle (where guests could previously meet Belle and help her tell the story of Beauty and the Beast) is also closed in Magic Kingdom, and this attraction doesn’t have a reopening date yet.
You can sometimes find Belle at Princess Fairytale Hall, or spot her at the front of the Festival of Fantasy Parade, which runs through Magic Kingdom daily at 12PM and 3PM. Note that the parade will not have 12PM showtimes on some days in August. On August 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th, the parade will only run at 3PM.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow
Pete’s Silly Sideshow is an attraction where guests could meet Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy (as The Great Goofini of course) in Storybook Circus. This spot has been closed for a long time, but Disney has announced that it will reopen sometime “in the coming months.”
In the meantime, you can meet Minnie with Mickey over at Town Square Theater, and catch lots of other friends — like Peter Pan, Snow White, Aladdin, Jasmine, and Merida — elsewhere in Magic Kingdom.
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
Good news! Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is finally reopening in Magic Kingdom THIS MONTH. This princess and prince salon will open on August 25th, 2022.
The locations at Disney Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort will reopen “at a later date,” according to Disney. Reservations for this experience (which is for kids ages 3 to 12) will open sometime in early August, although Disney hasn’t announced a specific date yet. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we have an exact opening date for those reservations.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Singalong Celebration
This Frozen-themed show will be closed beginning on August 22nd. It’ll remain closed through September 9th, and showtimes are available starting September 10th. Beginning on the 10th, the show will play every hour on the half-hour from 9:30AM to 6:30PM.
If you’re looking for a Frozen attraction during this show’s closure, head to Frozen Ever After in EPCOT. This ride is very popular, so you may want to go there first thing in the morning or consider buying Genie+ (or purchasing an individual Lightning Lane, as the ride will switch back to being an individual Lightning Lane attraction after August 7th).
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
The Voyage of the Little Mermaid show will remain closed through August. This show has been closed for a long time now, and it still doesn’t have a reopening date.
In the meantime, you can find a Little Mermaid-themed attraction over in Magic Kingdom called Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid.
Fantasmic!
Fantasmic! is still closed in Disney World, and although Disney has announced that it’ll reopen sometime in 2022, we don’t have a more specific opening date for it.
When the show does return, it’ll have a few changes like new characters and special effects. In the meantime, we’ve been keeping a close eye on construction updates.
Star Wars: Galactic Spectacular
The Galactic Spectacular nighttime show (which includes projections on the Chinese Theatre at the end of Hollywood Boulevard) has been unavailable for a long time, and Disney hasn’t announced when it will return.
But if you’re looking for a nighttime show in this park, check out Wonderful World of Animation, which plays at the same location (the end of Hollywood Boulevard, by the Chinese Theatre) nightly at 9PM. Double-check the My Disney Experience app when you’re here to make sure this show is playing during your visit.

EPCOT
Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360
The 2022 Food & Wine Festival has begun in EPCOT, and it’ll last for all of August! In fact, this festival runs through November 19th. One of the booths — the Appleseed Orchard booth — is currently occupying the space where Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360 usually runs in the Canada pavilion. As a result, the film cannot play during the festival.
We’re expecting this attraction to remain closed throughout the festival, so it’ll likely reopen in late November.

Disney World Hotels
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
Narcoossee’s restaurant has closed at this hotel (the closure started on July 14th). Disney announced that it’ll reopen sometime next year, which is a fairly long refurbishment for this spot!
In the meantime, Victoria & Albert’s Restaurant has reopened. So if you’re looking for a very fancy dining experience, you can make reservations now to check out the newly refurbished dining room and menu there.
Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course
Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course (the largest golf course in Disney World) is currently closed. Disney said they are redesigning holes 14 through 17, so guests cannot play on the course currently.
Magnolia Golf Course should reopen sometime “later this year.” In the meantime, guests can check out Disney’s Palm Golf Course and Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Kona Cafe is closing for a while at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This restaurant will be closed starting on August 15th, and the closure does not have an end date yet. During the time the spot is closed, you will still be able to use Mobile Order to get select breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings from Kona Island.
Kona Cafe serves food like Tonga Toast and Macadamia Nut Pancakes for breakfast, and sushi, poke bowls, burgers, stir-fry, and dashi bowls for lunch and dinner. While this spot is closed, remember that there are several other places that you can dine at in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort like ‘Ohana, Capt. Cook’s, Kona Island, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, and more.
We found Disney hotel-themed…water? It exists, apparently!
Disney World Water Parks
Blizzard Beach
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed in Disney World, and we don’t know yet when it could reopen.
But guests can still visit Typhoon Lagoon — Disney World’s other water park. This park has a lazy river, several slides, and some new snacks to try.
Check out Typhoon Lagoon here!
There ya have it! Everything that’s closed for refurbishment in Disney World this August. There are a few ongoing projects for attractions that haven’t even opened yet, and you can check out some of those here. And don’t forget that some rides and attractions can close without advanced notice, such as when the weather is bad. Keep checking the My Disney Experience app to get real-time updates about what’s available in the parks.
We’ll keep you updated with all the latest news, so stay tuned with DFB!
