The Halloween season may have just started, but is it too early to be thinking about the holidays?
Disney’s already confirmed that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will be returning this year to Magic Kingdom, as well as the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Over on the west coast, we already know so many details about Disney California Adventure’s Festival of Holidays, too! Amidst all of the happy news of returning holiday offerings, one festive attraction recently announced it will not be returning this year.
Night of a Million Lights at Give Kids the World Village was a holiday offering that began in 2020. After running for two years, Give Kids the World recently announced that it will not be returning this year.
Give Kids The World Village is a non-profit organization that provides week-long cost-free “wish” vacations to critically ill children and their families. Give Kids The World Village started the Night of a Million Lights event in 2020 as a so-called “pandemic pivot” as the non-profit was forced to temporarily close its doors in March of that same year. All proceeds from the event went right back to Give Kids The World.
Many of the lights used for the displays were donated by Walt Disney World and were used to decorate the homes and trees in the village, as well as to create a tunnel of lights and more dazzling displays. Despite the village reopening in 2021, Night of a Million Lights returned in a way that respected the privacy of the children and their families. This year, however, the village is back to full capacity and Night of a Million Lights will be discontinued so the organization can focus on the wish families who are staying there.

So sad on multiple levels…..it’s sad that they’re at full capacity meaning that there are so many children that wishes need to be granted for but also sad because it’s being discontinued. We got to attend in December 2021 and it was MAGICAL!!! My husband and I were in Orlando to celebrate my 40-year anniversary from childhood cancer. Hopefully, there can be a way to keep this tradition going even if they have to scale back a bit. There are so many people that would love to support this wonderful organization in this way.

My son was a Make a Wish kid and we stayed there back in 2004. What a wonderful place! I can’t say enough about the kindness we were shown by all the volunteers .

Does anyone know what’s going to happen to all the lights? Give Kids the World used the Osborne lights that were in Hollywood Studios for many years.
