What do barbecue, rodeos, and Toy Story all have in common?
They’re all going to be part of Disney’s upcoming restaurant, Roundup Rodeo BBQ! This spot, located in Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, will be a table service restaurant once it opens. So what’s going on with this upcoming restaurant now, and when can we expect it to finally open its doors and welcome guests inside? We’re giving you all the updates right here!
What Is Roundup Rodeo BBQ?
Roundup Rodeo BBQ is a new table service restaurant coming to Toy Story Land (also known as Andy’s backyard) in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
This restaurant is going to take guests on “a rootin’ tootin’ dining experience” in a rodeo-themed play area/dining room created by Andy himself. According to Disney, Andy has taken some of his favorite games and play sets to create the scene with both western toys and other items (like blocks, lights, cardboard cut-outs, and more) coming together to make a bright and colorful mash-up atmosphere. Guests will sit among “play sets” of a western town and train station while “rodeo festivities” take place.
Disney has also said that guests will see some of their favorite Pixar pals inside this restaurant — whether that means it’ll be character dining or just that the restaurant will be decorated with pictures of the characters has yet to be confirmed, but the concept art makes it look like the characters will just be in the decorations.
More importantly, what will there be to eat? Disney announced that this spot will serve barbecue! You can already find barbecue fare in the other theme parks (such as at Flame Tree Barbecue in Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT), so we’re excited to see the new eats at this spot.
Where Will It Be Located?
You can spot the construction walls for Roundup Rodeo BBQ just past the entrance to Toy Story land (if you’re coming from the Echo Lake part of Hollywood Studios). It’s located before the entrance to Slinky Dog Dash. In fact, if you’re waiting in line for that popular coaster, you might be standing right next to the restaurant’s construction site.
The location and walls have made it difficult to track the progress of the construction happening inside. However, back in 2020 we got to see the project from a different perspective thanks to an Orlando pilot. Now, if you walk up to the construction walls, you can check out some concept art for the restaurant.
The indoor, table service restaurant is a welcome addition to Toy Story Land, in large part simply because this land is in desperate need of some air conditioning! With just 1 indoor ride, a few outdoor rides, and an outdoor quick service restaurant, guests really need somewhere to sit back, relax, and cool off.
When Will It Open?
The million dollar question! WHEN will Roundup Rodeo BBQ finally open? Disney’s first announcement about this new restaurant happened YEARS ago, and the restaurant was originally supposed to open in 2020. However, like many construction projects around that time, it was delayed due to the pandemic.
More recently, Disney announced that Roundup Rodeo BBQ will open sometime in 2022 — that means we’ll only have to wait for a few more months before we can finally go inside. Unfortunately, Disney hasn’t given any more updates, so we don’t have a more specific date.
However, we’re seeing some signs that this spot could open sooner rather than later. For example, a new permit filed on August 3rd requested permission for “Fabrication & Installation of Set Pieces.” Is it possible that Disney is in the final stages of decorating the dining room? There wasn’t a completion date on the permit, so we don’t know exactly how long that step will take.
We can tell you that we’ve been keeping a close eye on the construction site, and of course, we’re always watching for new announcements from Disney. As soon as we have more information, you’ll be the first to know!
This new restaurant isn’t the only change in Toy Story Land. Recently, Jessie’s Trading Post — a new gift shop located at the exit of the Toy Story Mania ride — finally opened its doors to guests!
The updated shop has all kinds of Toy Story merchandise, and that merch is displayed on stands that look like playsets. When you enter this gift shop, make sure to look up! The ceiling is decorated to look like a game board.

Why is Disney pushing BBQ so hard. Toddlers can’t eat it, young adolescent make a mess with it and generally don’t care for it, Disney does not do BBQ well at any of its eating locations, especially when it comes to families. What us the big deal about BBQ at Disney, I don’t get it.

Ken says, they are riding the current wave of popularity of all kinds of barbecue. It is something that is typically American so appealing to visitors from overseas as well as us natives. There are different kinds of barbecue and I assure you that younger kids who can eat any kind of meat can usually handle pulled pork, for example, although they may treat it as finger food. Lots of foods are messy to eat, but people still enjoy them (watermelon and nachos, for example). We thought Flametree produced acceptable chicken and pulled pork, but have not tried Regal Eagle because there are too many other things we want to eat in Epcot. Disney has lots of Italian places too, because it is a popular type of food, just like barbecue. I ate a lot of barbecue when I lived in Texas, so I do have a good standard against which to judge this new offering.
