We hope you’re hungry because we have some Disney food news for ya!
Salt & Straw is a new ice cream shop that recently opened in Disney Springs. They also have a location at Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort. They are best known for their out-of-the-box but DELICIOUS ice cream flavor combinations. We have seen Fried Chicken Ice Cream and even Deviled Egg Ice Cream (yes, you read that right). And we liked them!! Now, Salt & Straw has released their flavors for the month of August.
This month Salt & Straw is bringing back their Veggies You Crave Series! Five different vegetables are being served up in this series which means that there are 5 fun flavors that you can enjoy!
The first is the returning Carrot Cake Batter with praline hazelnuts.
This flavor is made up of a slow-roasted carrots which have been blended into a spiced ice cream. Of course, those candied hazelnuts should add a bit of crunch and there’s even a swirl of cheesecake frosting. We’re already drooling…are you?!
There’s also a Spinach Cake option made with chocolate tahini fudge.
This flavor was inspired by a classic Turkish dessert! The spinach is baked into a golden green cake that is then covered with chocolate frosting and crumbled into vanilla ice cream. To top of all off, it’s mixed in with housemade tahini fudge.
Another option is the Green Fennel and Maple flavor. Now fennel might not scream ice cream. But I promise, Salt & Straw tends to know what they are doing when it comes to creating flavors. This one is made with fennel bulbs that have been steeped in maple which gives the ice cream a black licorice flavor.
And oh, we aren’t done yet! This one sounds the most unique to us and we can’t wait to give it a try. It’s the Charred Corn Curd with cotija and tajin. We tend to love this flavor combo, so we can’t wait to see how it plays out in ice cream form.
The Charred Corn Curd is clearly a celebration of Elote! To make it, Salt & Straw torched corn is blended into a curd that is then mixed with a housemade mayo ice cream. After all that mixin’, they add in a touch of lime and tajin and then they crumble some delish cotija cheese on top.
And last but not least is the Red Chili Curry option with makrut lime crispy rice. And guess what, this option is vegan!
This flavor is made with a combo of red chilis and coconut that were inspired by Southeast Asian curries. Salt & Straw roasts together chilis, lemongrass, ginger, and a few more spices with a splash of makrut lime. After doing this, all of that goodness is mixed into the coconut cream and then topped off with crispy rice florentines that are loaded up with makrut lime!
All 5 of these options can be purchased NOW at the Disney Springs and Downtown Disney locations. But get this, they can also be ordered ONLINE. You can order pints of these flavors here!
