We’re in Magic Kingdom for the first night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and you can bet we’re trying ALL the spooky treats we can get our hands on. We’ve already tasted a churro with a very specific audience, a Binx Cheshire Cat Tail that wasn’t what we expected at all, and a DIVISIVE ice cream flavor. Now, we’re trying a very UNUSUAL drink that’s new this year.
Come with us to Casey’s Corner to try Winifred’s Elixir of Youth — with a name like that, this drink has a LOT to live up to!
The Elixir of Youth is of course named after Winifred Sanderson — one of the 3 witch sisters from Hocus Pocus. You’ll find the drink at Casey’s Corner, which is usually where we get our beloved corn dog nuggets (with plastic cheese, of course). But right now, we’re trying out a couple of Halloween-exclusive treats instead.
Winifred’s Elixir of Youth is a Black Tea Slushy topped with Kiwi Foam and a Winifred Chocolate Piece. You can get one for $6.49. As strange as a tea slushy might sound, this actually isn’t the first time we’ve tried one in Disney World. We had TWO tea-flavored slushies over at Cheshire Café when the treats came out for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Unfortunately, we were less-than-impressed with those drinks. So how will this new version stack up? Let’s find out.
We are so happy to report that this tea slushy has finally figured it out. The biggest difference between this one and the ones over at Cheshire Café? This one actually tastes like tea! The slushy itself was very refreshing and yummy, and it was only slightly sweet (not overpoweringly sugary like the strawberry one we had previously). We could definitely taste the black tea flavor.
Keep in mind that, while we very much enjoyed that flavor, this might not be a win for little kids. They tend to enjoy the more sugary slushies, which you can find at places like Prince Eric’s Village Market, which has a Blue Raspberry Slushy right now.
We thought the kiwi foam on top was really fun. It’s just a little bit sour, but when you mix it with the slushy the 2 flavors complement each other very well. The foam has a bubbly consistency, so it’s a bit strange to eat, but we thought it fit the Halloween vibe perfectly. It felt like we were drinking a spooky potion that Winnie whipped up herself!
We very much enjoyed this treat, but we did find one thing to complain about: the more we drank it, the more our teeth and tongue turned BLACK. We’re used to Disney’s colorful foods turning our tongues unusual colors, but we don’t really want our entire mouth to be covered in black dye all day. And make sure to keep that dye away from any light-colored clothes — it will definitely stain your outfit purple if it gets on anything (not that we’re speaking from experience 😬).
In general, we think this slushy is perfect for anyone who likes black tea or wants a refreshing drink on a hot Orlando day. However, we think kids will prefer a more traditionally flavored slushy, as they might find the black tea flavor off-putting.
