One of Disney’s most unique drinks is back on the menu! For weary space travelers visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Oga’s Cantina is an ultra-themed bar known for serving up unique cocktails like the Dagobah Slug Slinger and Jet Juice.
One of the most iconic drinks on the menu — the Fuzzy Tauntaun — was removed from the menu earlier this year at both the Disneyland and Disney World Oga’s Cantina locations. We recently saw it return to Disneyland, but now it has also returned to Disney World…with a slight twist!
Okay, first, let’s cover the basics…what IS the Fuzzy Tauntaun?? The Oga’s Cantina cocktail is made with Cîroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, Orange Juice with Tangerine, Pure Cane Sugar, and “Buzz Button Tingling” Foam. That Buzz Button foam is the real kicker — it will make your mouth go numb when drinking it!
Earlier this year, a Cast Member told us that the flower utilized in the drink which causes the numbing effect was reportedly going extinct when we asked why the Fuzzy Tauntaun had been taken off the menu. The Cast Member also said that Disney was working to quickly find something to replace it and was testing various formulas behind the scenes.
After several months without this iconic space drink, we were thrilled when we recently spotted the Fuzzy Tauntaun BACK on the menu at Oga’s Cantina in Disneyland! We stopped by the Disneyland location to grab one to see whether it still tasted the same and we found that that signature mouth-numbing effect was still there!
If you’ll be visiting Oga’s Cantina in Disney World we have good news for you as well — the Fuzzy Tauntaun is now back on the menu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios too! But the drink’s formula has changed a bit.
A Cast Member told us that this version of the drink has more of a slow build to the mouth-numbing sensation (and not all at once like before). According to the Cast Member we spoke to, they couldn’t get the same ingredients they once used to make the foam, so now the foam is created using ground-up seeds that still cause the numbing effects. That is why the effects of the drink are slower (and why the foam looks different).
Note that these changes appear to be specific to the Disney World location from what we understand.
Of course, we had to give this new version a try so we hopped into Oga’s Cantina in Hollywood Studios! The first thing we noticed is that, yes, the foam does look a little different.
And, as the cast member told us, there is a slower build-up to the numbness, but it only takes a few sips before it kicks in — so don’t worry, this one is still a LOT of fun. The drink still has a sweet and fruity flavor, and we honestly didn’t notice anything too different about the taste or texture. It was still very light, and the peach flavor was wonderful. It’s smooth and the foam just melts in your mouth. For the great taste and the fun numbing sensation, it’s one of those drinks likely worth getting at least once!
And for those of you without space travel on your itinerary in the near future, don’t worry — our team put together a recipe for you to recreate the Fuzzy Tauntaun at home right here on Earth!
