Summer is winding down, and that means a lot of things!
School starts back up for lots of kids and teachers, Disney starts decorating for fall and Halloween, and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Oogie Boogie Bash return to the Disney parks! This year, it also apparently means that summer box office numbers are drastically declining. To fix the problem, Disney has decided to re-release some of its most popular blockbuster films in theaters again!
According to CNBC, the first film to be re-released will be Rogue One on August 26th, a month before the new Star Wars series Andor will premiere on Disney+. The re-release of the film will be accompanied by an exclusive look at the new series.
Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff will be released in theaters on September 2nd, just in time to celebrate 60 years of the Spider-Man comics and 20 years of films. The updated version includes added and extended scenes!
Finally, Avatar will return to the big screen on September 23rd, just three months before its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, debuts in theaters.
These re-releases are not only being used to promote new media coming out in each franchise or celebrate milestones, but also come when box office ticket sales are 30% lower than in 2019, and 30% fewer films have been released in theaters.
While there may not be many new Disney releases in theaters right now, Disney is putting a lot of content out on their streaming service, Disney+. A science fiction series is headed to the platform, and the She-Hulk release date has been changed but is still on the way. Stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney media news!
