EPCOT is currently in a state of transformation — with several new attractions and spaces in progress!
One upcoming attraction, Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana, has been described as a “lush exploration trail” that will allow visitors to play with “living water” as they walk through rock formations, fountains, and more. If you’re curious about how this might turn out, we just got a closer look at one special detail!
We’ve been watching the Journey of Water construction progress closely, and we’ve noticed rock formations coming together, along with structures being built. You can check out the construction yourself just by taking a ride on the EPCOT Monorail!
On Instagram, Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley posted a closer look at the rocks, calling “the craft of creating rockwork” a “blend of art and science.” Check out all the tiny details!
According to Riddley, the textures seen on the rock are sculpted, carved, and “inspired by real world formations.” Once the rocks are completed, they should be indistinguishable from real rocks crafted from years of environmental interactions.
Riddley also shared his experience exploring the future site of Journey of Water with Imagineers Scott and Robert, two of the leaders overseeing the construction of the interactive water attraction. We can’t wait to walk through this area ourselves!
Not long ago we also learned about a graphic that will be used throughout the attraction, which depicts the water cycle that will be used to guide guests through the attraction. It will also reportedly teach visitors more about the importance of the water cycle and tell the story of how we’re linked with water across the planet.
Disney has also shared other concept art that depicts both shady and covered areas, along with lots of greenery and water features such as waterfalls, fountains, and jumping water.
At this point, Disney has not yet shared an opening timeline for Journey of Water, which means we’ll continue to watch the construction progress as we keep our eyes and ears open for more announcements and updates. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news!
