Just a few days ago, a simple AirTag a traveler placed in their luggage helped lead police to a criminal who had stolen over $16,000 worth of items from various bags he had taken from the airport!
While you (hopefully) won’t fall victim to luggage thieves, airlines mishandling luggage is another story. According to SITA, a firm that collects data on baggage handling, over 28 MILLION bags are mishandled annually, with 77% of that number covering delays and another 5% representing bags that are completely lost!
You can help avoid these scenarios by tracking your suitcases with AirTags. AirTags communicate through Bluetooth with your phone or other Apple devices and interface with the Find My network. The AirTag sends out a signal to your nearby devices, and if you have an iPhone 11 or newer you can use Precision Finding to view the exact distance between you and your AirTag as well as in what direction it’s located.

But how far does it reach? When operating on the Bluetooth network, AirTags show up on your device when you’re within a 33 foot radius. This may seem extremely limited, but it’s not the be all end all of its capabilities. If you are away from your AirTag and another iPhone user comes within that radius, it will alert your phone of its location. Plus, with the Find My network you can see the general location of your AirTag and once there the Bluetooth will take over to lead you directly to your lost item.
Don’t worry about any would-be thieves using this technology to their advantage- all of the information used to locate your AirTag is anonymous and encrypted. You will still have total privacy, even when someone else’s phone alerts you to its location. Purchase just one AirTag, or grab this pack of four if you have multiple suitcases you want to keep track of.

An AirTag can be extremely helpful when your bag is lost. Airports might not know exactly where your bag is or whether it made it onto your plane or not, and sometimes they can be mistaken. With an AirTag you can see where your suitcase is and avoid stress and confusion. There are a wide variety of holders available for AirTags, and many have clips or keychains to make it easy to attach them to your luggage. When you receive your new AirTag, just pair it to your phone and clip it to the item you want to track. It’s that easy!
