September is usually a great time to visit Disney World. Because teachers and kids are back in school and the holidays are right around the corner, it’s usually a quieter time in the parks with lower ride wait times. But if you’re getting ready for a September trip, make sure you know ahead of time what’s going to be CLOSED in the Disney World parks!
We’ve got a full list of the attraction, restaurant, park, and hotel closures in Disney World for the month of September so that you can be prepared before you get to the parks. Take a look here.
Magic Kingdom
Liberty Square Riverboat
This is one of the shortest closures in September — the Liberty Square Riverboat will only be closed on September 1st! It’s scheduled to reopen on the 2nd.
This boat ride takes visitors on a tour of the Rivers of America via a steam-powered paddle wheeler.
Walt Disney World Railroad
Unlike the riverboat, the Walt Disney World Railroad has no reopening date in sight. This attraction has been closed for YEARS now, but Disney hasn’t given any updates about when it might return.
Although we’ve seen some engine testing and Cast Member training, it’s possible that the Railroad won’t reopen until construction wraps up on the TRON: Lightcycle Run coaster. That construction has interrupted the tracks over in Tomorrowland, so the train can’t currently run through that area.
Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.
Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. is the Space Mountain gift shop, and people usually exit the ride through this shop. Currently, visitors are being asked to exit a different way, though, as Light & Power Co. is closed.
The TRON: Lightcycle Run construction has taken over this spot as well, although that isn’t the only reason for the closure. During our last visit to Tomorrowland, we saw from the PeopleMover that the gift shop has been cleared out, apparently for some refurbishments.
It’s currently scheduled to be closed through November 5th, 2022, although that date could be moved.
Enchanted Tales with Belle
Enchanted Tales with Belle still doesn’t have a reopening date in Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom.
If you want to see Belle in this park, you can usually find her at the beginning of the Festival of Fantasy Parade, which runs through Magic Kingdom each day. Check the My Disney Experience app to see the parade times when you’re in the park.
And remember that you can also find the Beauty and the Beast stage show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
Pete’s Silly Sideshow
Pete’s Silly Sideshow is a character meet-and-greet spot that usually has friends like Daisy, Goofy, Donald, and Minnie. It’s still closed for now, although we’re expecting it to reopen any day now.
A while back, Disney announced that it would reopen sometime “in the coming months.” There’s not a specific reopening date yet, but we’re watching carefully for any updates.
Meet Ariel at Her Grotto
You can usually meet Ariel at this meet-and-greet spot, located near Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid. However, this meet-and-greet is currently closed and Disney hasn’t said when it could reopen.
The Under the Sea attraction is still open, though!
Remember that Magic Kingdom will close early on certain days in September due to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. On September 2nd, 5th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th, and 30th, the park will close at 6PM. The Disney Enchantment fireworks show will not happen on those days.
See what’s CHANGED at the PeopleMover in Magic Kingdom.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there’s only one closure to report for September. The Feathered Friends in Flight show will be closed from September 11th through September 24th.
This show is where Cast Members teach the audience all about birds, with special appearances from a lot of the park’s feathered friends. During its closure, you can still catch other shows around the park, like Festival of the Lion King or Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid attractions are just having a rough time in Disney World apparently! This show is still closed in Hollywood Studios, and Disney hasn’t announced when or if it will return.
We’ll continue to watch for more updates about the show.
Fantasmic!
Although Fantasmic! is still closed, we at least know that this nighttime show is going to reopen sometime in 2022. The end of the year is quickly approaching, so we’re hoping this show will be back soon.
When it does return, the show will look a little bit different with new characters, stunts, and effects.
One Hollywood Studios spot FINALLY reopened after a long closure.
EPCOT
Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360
The Canada Far & Wide theater is currently being used by the Appleseed Orchard Food & Wine Festival booth. Instead of a movie about the natural beauty of Canada, right now you’ll find an apple crumble tart and a variety of apple-flavored drinks at this location.
The movie will likely be missing for all of September, as we’re expecting it to return after November 19th, which is when the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival ends.
Find out about quiet price INCREASES at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival.
Disney World Hotels
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Kona Café is temporarily closed. The restaurant is going to reopen sometime in fall 2022 with “an enhanced table-service experience.” We don’t have a specific reopening date yet, so it could reopen this month. We’ll be sure to keep you updated.
Although the restaurant is closed, you can still use the My Disney Experience app to Mobile Order breakfast, lunch, and dinner from Kona Café To-Go, with pickup right next to Kona Island.
Disney World Water Parks
Blizzard Beach
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is still closed right now, and it has been for almost all of 2022. However, guests can still visit Typhoon Lagoon — Disney World’s other water park.
If you want to learn more about what’s going on in Blizzard Beach, check out our recent update here!

Although these things will all be unavailable for at least part of September, there’s a lot of other stuff going on in the parks. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is happening on some nights in Magic Kingdom (although the September party dates are almost sold out), character dining is returning to ‘Ohana and Crystal Palace, and a new scavenger hunt is coming to EPCOT.
