Walt Disney’s Plane Is Back on the West Coast For the FIRST Time Since 1992

We’re just days away from one of the biggest Disney fan events out there — the D23 Expo!

The expo typically happens every two years, but due to the pandemic, we haven’t had one since 2019. This year’s event will take place in Anaheim and will feature special guests, unique exhibits, and panels where big Disney news is announced. But there’s another big addition to the showcase this go around — Walt Disney’s plane!

We found out back in January that Walt Disney’s plane would be present at the expo, but now we know more details about how it will be displayed. It will be visible in a special exhibit called Mickey Mouse One: Walt’s Plane presented by Amazon. There, you’ll get to learn more about the history of the plane, also known as The Mouse.

It has been newly repainted with updated wing edges and windows. And in the exhibit, you’ll be able to see “never-before-exhibited items from the aircraft’s interior” including a customized instruments panel just for Walt, a telephone handset that allowed Walt to communicate with the pilot, and a flight bag featuring an image of Mickey Mouse sitting on the tail of the plane.

This is the first time that Walt’s plane has been on the west coast since October 8th, 1992. Since then, it has been stationed in Florida. For a time, it was part of the Studio Backlot Tour at MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios).

The iconic Gulfstream seats up to 15 passengers and was acquired by Walt in 1963. The interior included “a galley kitchen, two restrooms, two couches, a desk, and nods to the mouse who started it all.” During its time in use, the plane transported an estimated 83,000 passengers and flew an estimated 20,000 hours.
