Happy Disney+ Day!
We’re expecting to see a lot of Disney+ news today, including films being released on the streaming platform. If you want a clue about what else could happen today, you can take a look at what we saw last year to get an idea. Disney+ subscribers are also in for a special treat if they’re visiting the Disney parks today because they can enter each Disney World theme park 30 minutes BEFORE opening time! We tried it out for ourselves so you can see what it was like!
Today, September 8th, all Disney+ subscribers can enter any Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme park 30 minutes before the regular park opening time. And if you’re staying at select Walt Disney World and Disneyland hotels, you can get in the park 60 minutes before normal park opening time — it’s a pretty sweet deal.
During that time, a lot of rides and attractions are open (even more than are normally open for Early Entry), so you could head straight to the most popular rides to get in with a much lower wait than normal. We were up bright and early to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When we got to the park, security directed guests to enter through the normal front gate, and we spotted some extra Disney+ Day decorations along the way.
There were Cast Members and signs directing everyone to link their Disney+ accounts to their My Disney Experience account so that they could prove they were Disney+ subscribers. This was required in order to enter the park early.
You could scan a QR code to open your Disney+ account and show proof of your subscription.
Once we got into the park, we were given a set of new Disney+ Mickey ears and a button to celebrate! These were being handed out to everyone who entered the park early.
We also spotted Mickey and Minnie doing some filming for Good Morning America on ABC.
Most guests headed straight for the rides, and since crowds were fairly low, wait times stayed low during the first half hour. Of course, a half hour isn’t very long when rides are pretty far apart in this park, so most people likely only got on 1 or 2 rides before other guests began to arrive.
Didn’t know about the Early Theme Park Entry? If you’re staying at select Disney hotels during your trip, you can take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry (and also Extended Evening Hours, if you’re staying at a Deluxe Disney hotel). This is a great way to get on popular rides with a lower wait time or just to enjoy the park with lower crowds than usual.
Disney+ Day is also offering up lots of other fun specialties for Disney+ subscribers, so be sure to keep up with DFB as we show you them all throughout the day!
