This week was a BIG one for Disney World. We saw lots of new announcements for Disney+ Day on September 8th, and the D23 Expo this weekend is bringing even more news! But amid all the exciting changes, there are a few warnings we need to bring to your attention.
If you’re visiting the Disney World parks this week, make sure you know about a few CLOSURES that are currently happening in each one. Some attractions, restaurants, and shows are going to be unavailable for a while — check this list so that you don’t experience disappointing surprises on your next trip.
Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World Railroad
Disney has still not announced an opening date for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Although we’ve seen some engine testing and Cast Member training at this attraction, we don’t know yet when it could reopen.
However, the attraction is no longer listed on Disney World’s refurbishments calendar — could that mean it’s returning soon? We’ll be watching for updates from Disney!
Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.
Space Mountain’s gift shop — Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. — is currently closed because of construction over on the TRON: Lightcycle Run roller coaster.
Disney hasn’t announced when this gift shop could reopen, but it might stay closed until TRON construction is completed. For now, anyone who rides Space Mountain is being directed to a different exit (as they usually would exit through the gift shop).
Enchanted Tales with Belle
Another long-term closure in this park is Enchanted Tales with Belle — a character experience where you can help Belle tell the story of Beauty and the Beast.
Disney hasn’t announced yet when this attraction could reopen.
Pete’s Silly Sideshow
Pete’s Silly Sideshow is another closed character spot. Previously, you could find Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy at this location, all of whom were dressed as circus performers.
Disney previously announced that this spot will reopen sometime “in the coming months,” and that announcement was a few months ago. So it could reopen any day now!
Meet Ariel at Her Grotto
One more meet-and-greet spot is still closed in Magic Kingdom: Ariel’s Grotto. This spot — located near the Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid ride — has been closed for a long time now.
Disney still hasn’t announced when it could reopen.
What to do when the Magic Kingdom Monorail isn’t running.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Feathered Friends in Flight
Feathered Friends in Flight gives guests a behind-the-scenes look at how Animal Kingdom’s trainers work with birds. You’ll get to see the birds perform different behaviors that the trainers teach them, like singing a song or catching flying fruit!
From September 11th through the 24th, 2022, this show will be closed for “routine refurbishment.” During this time, there are still a few other shows to enjoy in this park, like Festival of the Lion King (a can’t-miss in our opinion) and Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Ariel must just be missing from Disney World because the Little Mermaid meet-and-greet isn’t the only attraction that’s still closed. The Voyage of the Little Mermaid stage show is also closed.
Disney hasn’t announced when or if this show will return.
Fantasmic!
The popular nighttime show Fantasmic! is still closed, but Disney has confirmed that it will reopen sometime this year.
That return is likely going to happen soon, as Disney announced last week that Cast Member rehearsals have already begun!
Check out which surprise Disney character we found in this park.
EPCOT
Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360
The Canada Far & Wide theater is actually still open in EPCOT, but also it’s not. We can explain. It’s currently being used by the Appleseed Orchard Food & Wine Festival booth! Instead of a movie about the natural beauty of Canada, right now you’ll find an apple crumble tart and a variety of apple-flavored drinks at this location.
The movie will likely return after November 19th, which is when the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival ends.
American Adventure Pavilion
Although this closure isn’t happening this week, it’s coming up soon so we included it here. The American Adventure show in EPCOT’s World Showcase is not showing times beginning on September 19th.
Disney hasn’t announced an official closure for this pavilion, so the missing times could be a glitch on the website. But if you love to watch America’s story told by animatronics of historical figures, you may want to be aware that it could be closed for a while beginning next week.

Disney World Hotels
Kona Café — Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Kona Café is temporarily closed at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Disney announced that the café will reopen sometime in fall 2022 with “an enhanced table-service experience.”
If you still want to grab food from this spot, you can use the My Disney Experience app to Mobile Order breakfast, lunch, and dinner from Kona Café To-Go. You’ll pick up your food right next to Kona Island.
Narcoossee’s — Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
Narcoossee’s (a seafood restaurant at the Grand Floridian) is currently closed as well. This restaurant closed back in July and isn’t expected to reopen until sometime in 2023.
Disney has said that Narcoossee’s will reopen next year with “an enhanced table-service experience.”

Disney World Water Parks
Blizzard Beach
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is still closed right now. But don’t worry — you can still visit Typhoon Lagoon, which is Disney World’s other water park.

Disney World has been pretty quiet over the last couple of weeks as summer winds down and teachers and kids return to school. The low crowds likely won’t last long — with the holidays coming up, many people are going to head to the parks to celebrate. If you’re visiting Disney World this holiday season, check out some of the returning celebrations coming up this year.
And if you’ll be decking the halls at home, you can still bring some Disney magic to your holidays! We found some new ornaments that you can get online, and don’t forget to add the popular Disney advent calendars to your online cart before they sell out.
