Character dining can be a special experience in Disney World, but is it worth it to shell out almost $50 PER PERSON to eat Mickey waffles with Mickey?
Character meals have slowly returned to “normal” in Disney World. Cape May Cafe just welcomed characters back, and The Crystal Palace features Winnie the Pooh and friends again at select meals. Now characters have also returned to breakfast at ‘Ohana but is this spot worth the HUGE price increase that came with those Disney friends? Let’s find out together.
Atmosphere
You’ll find ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, on the upper floor of the hotel’s main building.
The restaurant, like the hotel, carries through that Polynesian look and feel with its decorative elements, wooden features, and vibrant color scheme.
After checking in to the restaurant, you’ll be led to your table. Before you arrive, you might just pass by the food stations showing off some of the tasty treats you’re about to indulge in!
The big open kitchen design is a central feature of ‘Ohana (at both breakfast and dinner).
While you may know ‘Ohana for its noodles that have a cult-following and famous bread pudding, breakfast is a different affair. It offers an “American breakfast influenced by Polynesian flavors.”
You’ll find seating at some smaller and longer tables all throughout the space, with some located up against the windows that offer spectacular views over the water and onto Magic Kingdom.
Once at your table, you’ll be able to scan a QR code and check out the menu.
You can also scan some other QR codes to look at the menu in languages aside from English.
Now, let’s talk characters.
Characters and Entertainment
When ‘Ohana’s breakfast first returned, it did NOT come back with its iconic characters. But now the characters are BACK. During the meal, characters pop by the tables for autographs, hugs, photos, and perhaps a little bit of dancing (and some laughs!).
At one point in the meal, you’ll also get to experience the ‘Ohana Aloha Parade. It’s a little conga-line-style event where the characters dance around the room. It’s a fun little experience and adds a sense of liveliness to the restaurant as a whole.

In terms of overall interactions, our reporters were at the restaurant for around 2 hours (or so) and the characters came by their table about 3 times in total, which felt pretty nice. One reporter said that they felt like the characters passed by fewer times than other character meals, but they noted that the characters spent a LOT of time at the tables, which was nice.
The interactions with the characters were good and it felt like we got a good amount of time with them, but we did take a fairly long time to eat breakfast. If you’re more of a speedy eater and don’t think breakfast will take you 2 hours (or don’t want breakfast to take you 2 hours) keep in mind that you’ll likely get fewer interactions with the characters.
The characters you’ll see here are Mickey, Pluto, Lilo, and Stitch. While you can see Mickey and Pluto in a bunch of other places throughout the parks, seeing Lilo is particularly rare, and you don’t get to see Stitch all that often either (except over in Tomorrowland mainly). THAT is what makes this character breakfast unique and what could really make it worth it to someone.
The interactions with Lilo and Stitch felt particularly fun, unique, and memorable because they are a bit more on the rare side to find in the parks.
Lilo made her way around to greet guests too! 👋👋 pic.twitter.com/y3LtVdjy18

If you’re a Lilo & Stitch fan, that alone could make the meal worth it.
Because it has now returned to being a character meal, you will also get a little character autograph card.
It’s already got the signatures of your Disney pals, so you can sit back and focus on grabbing photos with your friends and just enjoying the food.
But the characters may also be able to sign autographs if you want!
Speaking of food, let’s take a look at the menu.
Menu
When breakfast first returned to ‘Ohana back in 2021, it returned without characters and was priced at just $25 per person. Now that the characters are back, breakfast got a MASSIVE price increase. It is nearly DOUBLE the cost now.
Breakfast will set you back $45 per adult now ($29 per child), plus tax and gratuity. That’s a huge price jump, so it’s critical that you decide whether this spot is worth it for you before spending all that cash.
What we’re really excited about at ‘Ohana – the FOOD. Guests get the ‘Ohana Breakfast Skillet with eggs, sausage, Hawaiian-style ham, potatoes, biscuits, and MICKEY AND STITCH waffles! You also can’t forget the pineapple-coconut bread! 😋 pic.twitter.com/Q5fdIc3uEh
— Disney Food Blog (@DisneyFoodBlog) October 3, 2022
First, let’s look at what the menu includes. Breakfast at ‘Ohana is served family-style. The main family-style meal includes fresh fruit, freshly made Pineapple-Coconut Breakfast Bread, and the ‘Ohana Breakfast Skillet (featuring scrambled eggs, sausage links, Mickey-shaped waffles, and more).
You can also get an all-you-care-to-enjoy plant-based breakfast.
While basic drinks (like a basic coffee or juice) are included in the meal, you can also purchase specialty drinks to go with your breakfast. There are non-alcoholic specialties and alcoholic drinks to pick from.
If you have an allergy, be sure to ask about the allergy-friendly breakfast options.
Now, let’s get into our meal!
Eats
We started with the oh-so-delicious Pineapple-Coconut Breakfast Bread. When ‘Ohana does things right they REALLY do it right, and this bread was done RIGHT. It was incredibly light and fluffy, and you could really tell that it had been freshly made (just as its name indicates).
It was very sweet and we especially loved the little chunks of pineapple scattered throughout it.
The icing on top added an extra layer of sweetness that we really enjoyed, but we could see this being a little too sweet for some. One of our reporters, who LOVES sweet treats, said that this was one of the BEST things they ate there. But if you don’t love sweet bread, this might not hit the top of your list.
Next, we’ve got the fresh fruits. These were a nice addition to the meal, though nothing out of this world. Eating them almost made us feel like we were having a healthy meal, so that’s a bonus. 😆
Finally, let’s tackle the ‘Ohana Breakfast Skillet. This comes with a variety of items so we’ll tackle each separately.
First up, we have the scrambled eggs. We actually really enjoyed these! One of our reporters shared that they are sometimes “weird” about eggs 🥚 but even they really liked these. They were cooked well and weren’t overdone (or super chewy), which was great. They had a texture similar to cheesy eggs in the way that they were creamy and melty, which was delicious. They were also really well seasoned, and you could tell they were fresh (and hadn’t just been sitting under a heater for a while).
Next, we have the pork breakfast sausage links. We enjoyed these too! They were essentially the traditional sausage links you’ll find at other Disney breakfasts (so not anything dramatically special), but they were a solid meat option. We found that they were well seasoned, giving them a nice flavor. Interestingly, about half of ours were more cooked, while half were a little less cooked. We actually liked that because it gave us the chance to pick whether we wanted things a little more or less cooked and crispy. Overall, these were good but nothing special.
Next, we have the Hawaiian-style ham topped with pineapple compote. Once again (unsurprisingly) we really enjoyed this! One of our reporters actually shared that this was up there on the top of their favorites list, with the Pineapple-Coconut Bread. The ham tasted really great and wasn’t overly salty. Plus, the pineapple added a nice level of sweetness to cut through some of the savoriness of the ham. To us, this was the item that seemed to have the most Polynesian-type influence and flavor (at least in terms of what you’d expect) in the skillet.
Up next were the fried island-style potatoes. Our reporter said, and we quote, “these potatoes were to die for!” 😯 They were some of the BEST seasoned potatoes we’ve had in Disney World, and that’s no joke! They were almost like a wedge fry, but there was a great seasoning on them with different herbs. When they brought us out some hot ones, they were also wonderfully crispy. If you like breakfast potatoes in any form, we think you’ll LOVE these. These are also likely to please the whole fam.
Next up were the Mickey-shaped waffles. What’s fun here is that you won’t just get waffles shaped like Mickey. You’ll also get some with a Stitch design! These were just your traditional Mickey waffles, but hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! They were light and fluffy, which we loved. Plus, we got that hint of vanilla flavor you can find in Mickey waffles usually. They’re not particularly unique, but if you’re looking for a classic Mickey waffle, this will satisfy you!
Finally, we have the biscuits. These were…fine. They weren’t particularly unique, but they were good, buttery, and flaky. If you eat them on their own, they’re fairly ordinary. But we think they could be made a little more exciting by pairing them with the ham and eating it as sort of a little breakfast sandwich of sorts. If you’ve got some picky eaters in the bunch, this is probably a safe pick for them.
Keep in mind that while this meal is served family-style, it is all-you-care-to-enjoy. That means you can request more of anything you want and they will refill whatever you need. Our server checked in on us repeatedly and brought us whatever we wanted more of throughout the meal.
Drinks
In terms of the drinks, there are some specialty beverages you can pay for separately (which we mentioned above), but the meal DOES include water, some regular drinks, standard coffee, and…the real kicker…UNLIMITED POG JUICE! For those who are unfamiliar with it, POG juice is a drink much beloved in Disney (and beyond). It’s made of a combination of passion fruit, orange, and guava juices (you can sometimes find it in a big jug at Costco!).
The POG juice was perfectly sweet and fruity. The primary flavor you taste is the guava, while the passion fruit mellows out the sweetness a bit and the orange adds a bit of zest! It can be a unique mix of flavors so it might not be for everyone, but if you like sweet and fruit-forward drinks, this is something you won’t want to miss. And for those who truly love POG juice, the fact that it is UNLIMITED is a MAJOR bonus!
We also grabbed some standard coffee here, which was fairly regular. Nothing too exciting to report there.
Now that our meal is finished, let’s take a look at who might love this meal and who might want to skip it.
Nosh or Not
Don’t miss breakfast at ‘Ohana if:
- You LOVE Lilo & Stitch — getting that much time with them (particularly Lilo) is rare, so this is a great experience for fans of that movie franchise and characters
- You want to fill up on an early meal — since this is all-you-care-t0-enjoy, you can really fill up. That could lead you to skipping lunch (saving a bit of money there) and jumping ahead to snack time and dinner. It might work out in your budget depending on what you’re willing to spend.
- You love breakfast food and are looking for a little taste of adventure with some basic foods too — none of the foods here are tremendously adventurous, but the ham with pineapples does have a little more of a unique flavor and there’s also POG juice and the coconut-pineapple bread. Overall, many of the choices are fairly safe for picky eaters, with a few more unique and flavorful items.
SKIP breakfast at this spot if:
- You’re on a tighter budget — there are plenty of breakfast options you can get for much LESS than $45 per adult so this isn’t exactly the most budget-friendly meal.
- You are looking for incredibly unique eats — for more unique and adventurous food, breakfast at a spot like Boma might be more up your alley. While the food here was good, and some of it was slightly more unique, none of it is particularly “wild.”
- You want a light/quick meal — this is an all-you-care-to-enjoy meal so you do have a lot to munch on and if you want to get your money’s worth, you’ll probably want to fill up. That could leave you feeling more on the fuller side and could mean that breakfast will take a long time. If you’re in a hurry and want to eat something light, this probably isn’t the best spot.
Overall
Overall, we really enjoyed our breakfast at ‘Ohana. The pineapple-coconut bread, ham with pineapples, and fried island-style potatoes were some BIG standouts (plus that POG juice, of course). The other dishes were also tasty, though some were not particularly unique. Nothing we had here was bad by any means, though some were a little more ordinary than others.
If you’re a Lilo & Stitch fan, getting to see Lilo (who you really can’t find anywhere else) and Stitch (who is also a bit harder to find), meet them, and spend time with them, can make this breakfast TOTALLY worth it.
If you’re not a Lilo & Stitch fan though, you might find the $45 price tag hard to swallow here.
Whether this will be worth it for you will truly depend on what you want/need. One of our reporters said that they liked character breakfast at ‘Ohana MORE than dinner at ‘Ohana. But two of our other reporters totally disagreed. So it’ll really depend on what you’re looking for in a meal.

Do you think this breakfast experience is worth it? Tell us in the comments!

Disney has gotten way over priced. After coming for over 20 years this year will be our last visit. Much cheaper to go elsewhere and I can buy the same souvenirs off of Ebay or shopDisney.
Amber says
Our family of 3 aren’t big eaters, we’d love to do this breakfast for the character meets. Can we ask them to omit certain food items so we don’t waste all that food? Like, no biscuits, Mickey waffles, etc?
Lee Anne says
We are headed there in early December. It’s our second trip with adult children and their children. We had breakfast there our last day last year and are doing it again this year. Yes, it’s overpriced, but I still think it’s worth it. It will be extra special having LILO and Stitch.
Ken says
Get to the punch line. Ohana breakfast (which was great) was $24.95, and now the same breakfast bonanza with entertainment is $ 45.00 is this essentially correct ? Can you get the breakfast without the entertainment ?
Mike says
Anyone paying $50 for powdered eggs is a FOOL !
The only way to change course is to Boycott
JanH says
We ate at O’hana’s breakfast prior to characters returning this year. We did not care for it much. Too many sweets including pineapple bread, pineapple sauce on ham, fruit, POG juice and waffles. Would have liked the pineapple sauce to be on the side, so if you didn’t want it on your ham you didn’t have to eat it. Disappointed there was no bacon. We are not sausage lovers. Our eggs were not edible…..too runny! We asked for more and they brought another full breakfast platter with same runny eggs! Our potatoes were not as shown in these photos. Ours were chopped up with onions and just ok. Waffles were tasty but cold. Biscuits were not hot either. We ended up eating the few waffles we got, ham, fruit and not much else. Not worth the $25 much less $45.
Leah Miscavage says
Oof too many carbs—and I’m a pooh sized gal who loves bread and potatoes!
Susan M Zahn says
$9 for a coffee?! Disney is just punking us now, isn’t it?
Alice says
As you said it all depends, my brother takes his granddaughters and he only sees them a few times a year. Lol he’ll drop just about anything for the experience.
But I will agree Disney is getting out of control
Mary says
Great review but it makes me sad because I try EVERY TIME we go to Disney to eat here (tried for both breakfast and dinner) and I’ve NEVER been able to get a reservation. I’ve logged on 10 minutes before the 60 day golden hour and still can’t get a reservation. What is your secret?? Thanks!!
Lyn says
“Breakfast will set you back $45 per adult now ($29 per child), plus tax and gratuity.” If Disney is paying their cast a liveable wage there shouldn’t be an expected gratuity.
How much was the breakfast when it had characters before the pandemic?
Sue Mccleish says
Where there in September before characters. Had 5 adults and 2 children. Way less then what it takes now! The kids hardly eat anything. Really, $30 for a 4 and 5 year old! No thanks, not that desperate.
Sue Mccleish says
Forgot to mention, the kids price before was $14. What a joke. Up more than twice.
Jean says
What was it in 2019 before COVID and with characters? I think the increase has something to do with characters and no characters. I’ve love that number.
sam says
they really are pricing people right out the door, the days of disneys enjoyable times are gone.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Amber! Yes, you can always ask them to omit certain items.
