Right now, there are several new attractions planned for Disney World.
We’ve got the TRON coaster, currently under construction in Tomorrowland, set to open in the spring. There’s Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana over at EPCOT, which will be a walkthrough attraction where guests can interact with water, and it’s set to open towards the end of 2023. And of course, we can’t forget about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the retheme of Splash Mountain, which will open at Magic Kingdom in 2024. If you’re waiting for that last one, then you’ll be glad to know that the project just hit a big milestone!
Disney has just filed a Notice of Commencement permit with the Orange County government, and the permit is filed for Splash Mountain’s current address. What does this mean? Well, it’s a notice that Disney plans to begin construction at that site soon!
The permit was filed on October 13th and Disney entered a specific expiration date of June 30th, 2024. Will construction be completed before then? We’ll have to wait and see! They previously announced that the new ride would open “before the end of 2024.”
Balfour Beatty Construction LLC is listed as the contractor on the project. This company is no stranger to working with Disney — they’ve been listed on permits in the past for projects like the PLAY! Pavilion and Reflections — A Lakeside Lodge (remember, that hotel Disney just stopped talking about?). Walt Disney Imagineering is listed as the owner of the project.
Disney still hasn’t announced a closing date for Splash Mountain, but we’ll be on the lookout for any indication of when this might happen. The retheme will introduce a new storyline, new animatronics, and new music. We got a sneak peek at the model for the future attraction recently at the D23 Expo.

I for one am not “waiting for that last one”. Dumb move and the Magic Kingdom will be missing one of its biggest rides for probably over a year. Worst decision since they ruined Journey Into Imagination.
Ken says
I don’t see what you are referring to in your headline.
Niki says
Does this mean the railroad will stop again (as it passes through the end of SM)?
Greg says
We’re a little selfish in the hope that the closing waits until after our trip planned in December.
Don Andrews says
I was at Disneyland a month ago. I was glad that I was able to ride Splash Mountain one last time before they change it.
Randy Chestnut says
I am wanting to ride Splash Mountain one last time, as this ride is a salute to American literary classics by Joel Chandler Harris. His stories are strong morality tales, and are written in the vernacular of a former slave in the latter 1800’s , Uncle Remus, which some find offensive today. Critics have never read Mr. Harris’s books. Just like Jed Clampett, a man ridiculed by society’s elite, Uncle Remus was very often the wisest man in the room! It is a shame the Woke are destroying this ride. Nothing against Tiana at all. She is a true princess.

Hope Splash Mountain is open Nov. 8 thru Nov. 17th when I will be headed home from my LAST ever trip to Disney. They no longer care about the average guy. Cost is unbelievable, using up some 24 year old non-expiring hopper tix. After that I’m done with Disney, but I really don’t think they care.
Rich says
Well said Randy. People are ignorant to the facts and Disney doesn’t have the guts to say “no”. They are afraid of the Woke crowd.
I said it before and I’ll say it again . . . if they can make a movie about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad then they can make a new movie about the truly classic characters in Splash Mountain and turn the page on this whole issue. A serious loss of opportunity here, Disney.
