Disney World is a magical place, but that doesn’t mean that everything runs smoothly 100% of the time. There are sometimes emergency situations in the parks, and Disney generally has plans in place to handle those events.
Tonight in EPCOT, it looks like one such event has occurred. The Harmonious barges appeared to catch fire during EPCOT’s fireworks show.
The barges are large structures in the middle of the World Showcase Lagoon, from which the fireworks are set off during the Harmonious show. These barges also display projections and lights.
Tonight, several visitors in EPCOT tweeted videos that showed one part of the barges appearing to catch fire.

According to Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin), Disney released a statement that read, “A fireworks launch platform had a contained fire after Friday’s show and was extinguished.”
Disney confirms the Harmonious fire only impacted a fireworks launch platform.

The barges are an eyesore. Trash em, and come up with a better night show. Music and fireworks make everyone happy.

I haven’t seen the show so I can’t remark on that but I can say those barges are an eye-sore. There should have been a way for them to sink under the water when show was not going on. They destroy the beauty of the view you used to get when approaching World Showcase. With all the technology available to us today, surely there was some way they could have made this more pleasing to the eye.

Ate at Tiffins yesterday. Our waitress forgot the children’s drinks and one of the adults entry’s. When she finally came back and we told her of her mistake she said she would go get it. By that time everyone was done and we asked that they just cancel the order. Very disappointed with the service for such an expensive high end restaurant. Only offered a 10% discount which I personally didn’t feel was enough. Since it was a party of six we did get charged an 18% service charge….even though only 5 people ate.

Well, they are going to junk the tacos and the stargate anyway.

I’m getting more and more discouraged with the new Disney World. I long for the simple fun we used to have, SpectroMagic or Mainstreet Electric Parade, extra magic hours, not having to have a park reservation- I’m on vacation-broken down rides now, terrible experience checking into Beach Club Villas last July and terrible pool experience there on July 4. Eating our food out of boxes instead of on a plate! Disney & cast members are losing guest experience. Sad but I’m not excited for my November trip and may cancel it

It’s a good thing that a government agency in Florida requires effective minimums for safety standards, and has the Reedy Creek Fire Department nearby who understands the ins and outs of these specialized watercraft. You know, just in case. Oh wait . . .
