Disney World is gearing up for the holidays!
There will soon be special ride overlays, decorations around the parks, Santa meet and greets, and more in Disney World. We already know about a bunch of stuff coming back to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays, and now there’s more holiday fun happening. Construction has begun on an ICONIC holidays decoration in Disney World!
Construction is underway for the giant gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa!
This is a life-size house made with real gingerbread that sells a variety of holidays treats throughout the season.
The front already looks pretty put together — looks like Cast Members are still working on the roof and the back!
There are crates marked as “Gingerbread House” and “Grand Floridian”. It takes a LONG time for Cast Members to create the gingerbread pieces themselves and then a few days to assemble the house!
It’s really coming together already, just one day after Halloween, and we can’t wait to see the finished product!
Here’s another look at the construction.

Last year, the gingerbread house got a special look for Disney World’s 50th anniversary. The EARidescent colors made their way into the design, with blue and gold accents everywhere, including a lot of blue plants around the house. For reference, this is what the gingerbread house looked like last year:
We’ll let you know if the same 50th anniversary touches are on the house this year — the 50th anniversary celebration is still happening in Disney World so it’s very possible! Stay tuned to see when the house opens and what treats they will be serving this year.
We’re here to keep you updated on everything happening for the holidays in Disney World, like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays, and everything else!

While it looks great, and will look even better when it is all dressed up, the traditional Ginger Bread House will bring long lines to get an overpriced cookie. I know, i have given my daughter a Disney Grand Floridian Ginger Bread Shingle for every year for the 32 years we have had her with us. I love it, but I do not like how every year, regardless of how big the house seems to get, there is only one window with two cast members processing the hundreds, thousands of requests for assistance each day. You would think that Disney would have figured out how to install a second window to keep the lines moving alittle faster during the peak weeks.
