Disney+ has only been around for about 3 years now, but it’s made a pretty big impact in that short amount of time.
In fact, the streaming service is even trying to catch up with Netflix. The popularity isn’t surprising, since Disney+ is home to some of the most successful studios and franchises of all time, like Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. We like to keep up with the number of subscribers for Disney+ so we can see how things are changing, and we have some new numbers for you!
Disney+ added 12.1 million subscribers in its fourth quarter. This was part of the 14.6 million total subscriptions added by Disney to its various streaming services like ESPN+ and Hulu. Overall, Disney has added almost 57 million subscriptions this year for a total of over 235 million. Here’s a look at the numbers for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu:
This info was revealed in Disney’s Quarter 4 earnings report. Disney said, “The rapid growth of Disney+ in just three years since launch is a direct result of our strategic decision to invest heavily in creating incredible content and rolling out the service internationally, and we expect our DTC (direct-to-consumer) operating losses to narrow going forward and that Disney+ will still achieve profitability in fiscal 2024, assuming we do not see a meaningful shift in the economic climate.”
Disney says they believe they will be able to achieve profitability in part due to adding a Disney+ ad-supported tier, which is coming on December 8th.
Direct-to-consumer revenues for Quarter 4 also increased 8% to 4.9 billion and the operating loss increased by $0.8 billion to $1.5 billion. This increase in operating loss was because of a higher loss at Disney+ and a decrease in results at Hulu, which was partially offset by improved results at ESPN+.

So much fo all the “I’m canceling my subscription” people because of Disney’s views. I guess a lot more people agree with or have no issues with Disney’s views.

Do you know on Dec 8th if current subscribers have to choose plan or will it automatically keep you at no ads and increase the fee. I don’t want ads.
Thanks
