It’s officially the holiday season in Disneyland — we know because the holiday decorations are up and there is almost nothing but holiday merchandise in the shops!
We’ve also seen “it’s a small world” with its holiday overlay. But the most important event of the holidays, the Festival of Holidays, has arrived in Disney California Adventure (the food booths opened early!) and we’re ready to EAT some holiday snacks. So let’s head on over to a food booth to see what’s shaking!
We are headed over to Grandma’s Recipes to see if these really are as good as our own Grandma’s holiday recipes.
Menu
The menu here is based on classic Grandma-inspired foods. You’ll find two food items and two drinks.
So let’s get to tasting!
Food
We started with the Impossible Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes with Classic Gravy and Crispy Shallots for $8. As the name implies, this is made without meat, offering up a plant-based option for festival goers.
Here’s the thing, though — if we hadn’t seen the name, we would’ve had no idea this wasn’t real meat. The flavors and texture were perfect. The mashed potatoes were also GREAT! We know it doesn’t look the prettiest, but it actually tasted really good. Meatloaf lovers, you shouldn’t miss this!
Now it’s time for a little something sweet. The Pumpkin Layered Cheesecake for $7 is made with Layers of New York-style Cheesecake, Pumpkin Gooey Cake, and Graham Cracker, topped with Spiced Chantilly and a Chocolate Decoration. BUT ours was lacking the chocolate decoration.
However, this was a delicious treat. It tasted a lot like pumpkin pie and was smooth and creamy, and it didn’t overtly have heavy spice flavors. The graham cracker crust is thin but flavorful.
Overall, we really liked it! But now we need to wash down that food, so how about some drinks?
Drinks
The Blood Orange Pom-Limeade for $6.59 is made with Pomegranate and Lime Juices and Cookie Butter & Blood Orange Syrups, garnished with a Lime Wheel. Okay, so the cookie butter syrup is a CHOICE, and we weren’t sure about it (we even asked a Cast Member to confirm it was in there). However, you can’t really taste it. The drink itself was FANTASTIC! It was tart and sweet — a really good flavor combo.Â
We also go the Hummingbird Cocktail for $15. It’s made with Bourbon, Créme de Banana Liqueur, Pineapple Juice, Banana Purée, Butter Pecan Syrup, Cinnamon Sugar, Demerara Sugar, and Vanilla Bean, garnished with a Pineapple Wedge. Sure, this might be a holiday festival, but those are tropical flavors, and we LOVED it. It’s very easy to drink, and that could be a good or bad thing, depending.
However, the banana flavor is a little strong, so you really need to like banana for this one.
Overall
Last year, this booth was kind of hit-and-miss, but this year, it’s pretty much a full hit! We loved both food offerings, as well as the drinks. It’s also nice to have another meatless option available at the festival.
We’ll be covering EVERY food booth at the Festival of Holidays in California Adventure, so be sure to keep checking back for more reviews. In the meantime, you can keep track of all our reviews here.
