Remember not too long ago when Disney World rolled out a big dining cancellation change on the My Disney Experience App?
This big update was around on the app for a few hours and then was quickly removed leaving some to wonder if it was just a glitch or some other error. Well, now we are happy to share that Disney has officially announced the new dining reservation cancelation policy that we spotted on MDE.
Disney World has officially announced that starting today (November 15) guests can now cancel their dining reservations up to two hours in advance without any sort of cancellation fee. Note: This may not be the case at all locations but it should be the case at most.
Previously, you would have to cancel most advance dining reservations in Disney World at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged those cancelation fees. So this is a big change.
You should just be able to click on your reservation in the My Disney Experience app and see a modify button. From there, you should be able to cancel the reservation as long as it is within that 2-hour window. If it isn’t, you will be given a number to call.
This new feature should add a lot of flexibility into your day if you need to cancel a previously planned dining reservation on the same day. On top of that, it should hopefully mean that guests who weren’t able to get a dining reservation where they really wanted will see more availability throughout their trip. So checking MDE for new reservations should be something you implement even more now if you are looking for a specific dining reservation.
Disney has shared that this new policy does not apply to Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Victoria and Albert’s, and Monsieur Paul.
This is just one of many changes being rolled out for Disney World today. Be on the lookout for more BREAKING news.

Nope Nope Nope. This will cause even more hoarding that is already happening.

Does this two hour window apply for reservations made for December but before November 15th?
Relic says
Couldn’t you bypass the cancellation fee if you modify your reservation to a different day and cancel it then?
John Staley says
This policy change is no big whoop. There are so many walk-ups that there is inconsequential negative impact to the restaurant or consumer. Disney is just trying to add a “warm and Fuzzy” to downplay their most recent price surging grab
Thomas Welsh says
Guests will be making more reservations (blocking other guests) that they don’t intend to keep and then canceling them at the last minute. This will help those who like to “walk-up” and get in, but will hurt those of us who like to plan ahead.
If they’re going to make it easier to CANCEL reservations, then they should make it easier to BOOK reservation. A return to 180 days pre-arrival would be nice,

After paying $229 to get into a park and have a ride, who could afford to eat anyway.

At least with the 24 hour cancellation your could snag a reservation to a hard to get restaurant and plan your day! As a planner I don’t like this 2 hour window.

This is great news to us ! It was so annoying to have to call a number and be on hold just to cancel a reservation. Even chatting on the app has a crazy wait time. I’m very happy with this change. It should also bring the phone and app wait times down. I’m always for more freedom and less wait !
