EPCOT just celebrated its 40th Anniversary, and there are some BIG changes on the horizon for the park!
We’re partway through EPCOT’s multi-year transformation, and there’s one big area left to complete — the middle of the park. If you’ve visited in the past few years, you’ll know that the center of the park is surrounded by construction walls. But soon, we’ll be getting some exciting new additions in World Nature and World Celebration…and today we’ve got an update!
If you ride the monorail into EPCOT, you’ll get to see what’s going on in the middle of the park with all the projects. To start with, there’s a section that’s under construction between Spaceship Earth and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This area has been having some pretty slow progress, but it looks like there may eventually be a pathway that opens up between the two areas. It doesn’t seem to be the priority project at the moment though.
Moving on over to the big construction zone, we spotted some changes with CommuniCore Hall this week — that’s the big building in the middle. There was a large crane laying pieces on top of the two-story structure recently, but we couldn’t yet tell if they were going to add a third floor or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
The area around CommuniCore Hall will be CommuniCore Plaza, which will be an outdoor space where guests can relax and enjoy EPCOT festival offerings. There will be a stage constructed here that will have the ability to host both small performances and large concerts. We’re excited to see these features constructed!
There’s a lot going on in the area behind CommuniCore Hall, where the World Nature bathrooms are located. Mostly, it looks like this space has been storing construction materials, and the ground has been torn up in order to work on the new buildings and features.
Moving on to the thing we’re all not-so-patiently awaiting, let’s discuss Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana! The walk-through attraction is set to be complete by the end of next year, and we’ve seen some changes recently that show us how quickly the progress is coming along.
We recently noticed that the SECOND section of rock structures has been added (look out for the gray rockwork behind the orange and green ones). All of the various parts are starting to get connected to each other, and more practical elements have been added, including what looks to be lighting for the pathway.
It keeps expanding and getting a little bigger every few weeks, so we’re interested to see how big it is when everything is completed.
And finally, we have a photo to show the construction nearest to Spaceship Earth. Directly behind the EPCOT icon, you’ll find some beautiful gardens and Dreamers Point, which will include a statue of Walt Disney. Right now, not much is changing in this area, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more updates!
That’s an update on all the big construction in EPCOT! Stay tuned to DFB for more news on this gigantic transformation, including details on any of the additions coming next year. We’re excited to get to walk through the middle of the park again soon — it’ll save us some serious time!
