Disney Festival of Holidays is happening at Disneyland Resort right now, but we’re already getting news about the next festivals!
Over at Disney California Adventure park, you can find various festivals throughout the year. Right now, Festival of Holidays is happening, with all kinds of food, merchandise, and entertainment. But, at the beginning of next year we’ll get a different festival in the park — Lunar New Year! And, we now know exactly when the festival will be returning.
Lunar New Year will tale place from January 20th through February 15th, 2023! This celebration is a tribute to Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures.
The Year of the Rabbit is happening in 2023, according to the Chinese zodiac calendar. In Chinese culture, the rabbit symbolizes luck more than any other zodiac animal! Disney will also be recognizing the Vietnamese zodiac calendar during the celebration, which marks 2023 as the Year of the Cat.
During the celebration, you will see Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their festive attire, as well as Mulan and Mushu, who will be hosting the centerpiece of the celebration — Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession. This performance will have a ton of parade performers honoring family, friendship, and the potential for a fortune-filled new year. The procession will be extended throughout ALL of DCA in 2023 along the parade route from Paradise Gardens through Hollywood Land.
There will also be two new Lunar New Year food marketplaces — Bamboo Blessings and Wrapped with Love. They will be joining returning food booths like Lucky 8 Lantern, Prosperity Bao & Buns, Red Spice Traders, and Longevity Noodle Co. The Sip and Savor pass will also be making a return! And, additional treats and festival items will be at Paradise Garden Grill and Lucky Fortune Cookery.
Also returning to the celebration this year is Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration which will take place right before World of Color. The nighttime water show tells the story of a little lantern’s quest to reunite with family for the annual celebration of good luck and fortune.
Some crafts at Lunar New Year in 2023 will include Chinese calligraphy demonstrations and the Lucky Wishes Wall, where guests can share their hopes for the upcoming year.
And, guess who else is coming back in 2023? Raya! We saw her character encounter for the first time in 2022, and she’ll be back at the upcoming Lunar New Year celebration in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.
We’ll let you know more about the festival as Disney releases information, so stay tuned! For now, you can check out what the celebrations were like in 2022 by looking at the BEST OF THE FEST from Disney’s 2022 Lunar New Year, ALL of the 2022 Lunar New Year Festival merchandise, and ALL of the entertainment at the 2022 Lunar New Year Festival.
