Genie+ (the paid service that lets you skip certain ride lines) has reached a RECORD-high price in Disney World today.
Disney announced earlier this year that the service would have surge pricing, meaning it would get more or less expensive depending on the day. Disney Genie+ used to be $15 per person, per day, but with the new surge pricing, it reached up to $22 per person, per day. Now, that price has jumped by a LOT.
With the start of Thanksgiving Break, Disney Genie+ has increased to $29 per person, per day. This price can change each day, depending on demand and crowd levels, but it’s possible that Genie+ will remain at this price (or higher) for the holiday week.
This price is $7 more than the previous high we saw of $22 per person, per day, which is a huge jump.
The individual Lightning Lanes have also reached new high prices, although they didn’t jump by quite as much. The Lightning Lane pass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (in Magic Kingdom) cost $12 per person today, when its previous high was $11.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind reached $17 per person, and its previous high was $15.
Over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Avatar: Flight of Passage hit $16 per person today when its previous high was $14.
These prices could remain this high or even increase as the holiday season continues and crowds surge to the Disney World parks. Remember that you don’t have to purchase Disney Genie+ — you can choose to use the standby lines instead, although the wait times will likely be long this season.
For the best chance of getting on your favorite rides with lower wait times, get to the parks well before opening time (we recommend at least a half-hour early!) and head straight to the most popular rides when they open. Sometimes ride wait times also drop in the evening, just before the parks close. By staying later, you might get on more rides with shorter wait times, too.
Don’t forget that everyone staying at a Disney World hotel can enter the parks a half-hour early, too! Not all of the rides are open for this Early Entry perk, but many of the popular ones are. See a full list of what’s OPEN during Early Entry here.

I don’t think Disney will discontinue Genie+ as they invested way too money in to it. But I do hope with Iger’s return, they stop charging for it. Just let it be an updated digital FastPass that worked like FastPass did , only digital. Instead of going to a kiosk, just get them on your phone instead without charging for it. But to be fair to those who aren’t phone savvy, keep a few kiosk open for them. Also, changing the name back to FastPass will comfort guest with a well known product they recognize and are familiar with.

Gigi, if there are few cars in the parking lot and few people in the parks, how does Disney determine that the park is full that particular day? How then does Disney arbitrarily attach a cost to the Genie Plus for that day? Thanks

Hi Ron. Disney has not released that information so I have no way of answering that, unfortunately.
