Who’s ready for another EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays food booth review?!
We’ve been eating our way through the World Showcase, catching all kinds of entertainment, and even doing some shopping. Now the Shanghai Holiday Kitchen booth is BACK this year and we can’t wait to check it out!
The Shanghai Holiday Kitchen is returning this year with NEW items and a whole lot of drinks.
Let’s go over the menu!
Menu
The menu for the Shanghai Holiday Kitchen features three new items including a Chicken Skewer, a Beef and Noodle Soup Bowl, and Vegetable Spring Rolls.
For drinks, you can order Panda Bubble Tea, Lucky Foo Pale Ale, Kung Fu Master, Marco Boba, and The Lucky MO, which has updated ingredients this year.
Food
The Chicken Skewer is served with creamy peanut sauce for $6.75, and don’t let the simple description fool you — this was PACKED with flavor! There was a pretty subtle heat that built up after a while, but the creamy peanut flavor helped to quell anything that was too spicy. The chicken was tender without being mushy, and we found ourselves wishing there was more of it.
The green onions were fresh and crunchy, and were a bright burst of flavor when paired with the savory peanut sauce and chicken. The toasted sesame seeds added a toasty nuttiness that paired well with the peanut sauce.
The Beef and Noodle Soup Bowl is new, served with slow-braised beef shank, green onion, and housemade chili oil for $9.25.
Our only complaint about this dish is that we were eating it on a hot, Florida day. It was pretty close to perfect other than that — the beef was so tender — it nearly melted in our mouth — and the noodles were perfectly cooked along with the vegetables. Not too mushy, and not underdone either. The housemade chili oil added a great spice to the soup without adding any additional heat. We thought this was absolutely wonderful and would get it again — it may be a Best of the Fest contender this year!
There were also new Vegetable Spring Rolls with citrus sauce for $5.25. These were pretty solid spring rolls, but overall nothing to write home about. The outside was crispy and the veggies inside were well cooked — we could tell what each individual vegetable was instead of it just being a vegetable mush.
The citrus sauce was really great, though — almost like a mix between a ponzu sauce and sweet and sour. It helped take the otherwise kind of boring spring rolls to another level. If you’re a big spring roll fan you probably won’t be disappointed, but they’re pretty standard and nothing too remarkable.
Let’s explore the drink items!
Beverages
There are a few returning drinks this year, including the Marco Boba made with Amaretto, iced coffee, milk, and boba for $13.50. This drink has a great coffee flavor that balances nicely with the sweet Amaretto.
The Lucky Mo has updated ingredients this year, made with SKYY Infusions Vodka, Peach Schnapps, peach syrup, pina colada mix, orange juice, and soda water for $13.75. You definitely need to love sweet cocktails to enjoy this one — there’s a lot of fruitiness and a lot of sugar here. The peach and piña colada flavors come through most, but you can taste the vodka too. Fans of fruity vodka drinks will probably like this one!
And the last cocktail item is the King Fu Master, made with Tito’s Vodka, Triple Sec, mango, orange juice, and soda water for $14.50.
You’ll also find the Lucky Foo Pale Ale on this menu for $5.25 for 6oz or $9 for 12oz.
Overall
We loved this booth overall — the chicken skewers are a super flavorful protein option with an excellent peanut sauce, while the beef noodle soup may be one of our favorite dishes we’ve tried all day. Not to mention, The Lucky Mo cocktail goes down pretty easy — almost too easy. If you’re looking for some solid Chinese-inspired options, add the Shanghai Holiday Kitchen booth to your list!
