To ensure we are equipping our readers with all the information they need, we will continue to report on all travel, safety, and COVID-related news that could impact a Disney Parks visit.
The international COVID-19 pandemic resulted in every Disney resort shutting down in 2020. Some Disney parks were able to reopen just a few months later, but others have been closed repeatedly due to COVID.
Shanghai Disneyland is one park that has closed several times, and although Shanghai Disney Resort began a phased reopening recently following the last closure, this park will be closing again soon.
Shanghai Disney Resort closed on October 31st, 2022, due to COVID-19 numbers in the area. The resort began a phased reopening on November 16th, 2022. However, it was announced on the resort’s website on November 29th that Shanghai Disneyland will be closing once again, effective immediately.
On the website, it says, “In order to follow the requirement of pandemic prevention and control, Shanghai Disneyland will be temporarily closed starting Tuesday, November 29, 2022. We will notify guests as soon as we have a confirmed date to resume operations. Disneytown, Wishing Star Park, and the two resort hotels will continue to operate normally. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide refunds or exchanges for all guests impacted during this period.”
Guests who have tickets to visit Shanghai Disneyland on or after November 29th “may choose to visit the park on any other day within the next six months from the park reopening day.” So once Shanghai Disneyland reopens, you’ll have 6 months to visit with your tickets. Reservations will not be required to use those tickets.
If you would prefer to get a refund instead, you can obtain one by requesting it through the Shanghai Disneyland app. The refund will be given through the original purchase channel within 45 business days. This policy applies to park tickets, Disney Premiere Access, Disney Concierge Service, meal coupons, and other dated products and services.
The 2 hotels at Shanghai Disney Resort will operate as normal, but guests who do not want to keep their reservations while Shanghai Disneyland is closed can “contact the original purchase channel for inquiries.”
If you have questions or need to contact Shanghai Disney Resort, the number is 400-180-0000 (Chinese Mainland) or +86-21-3158-0000 (Other Countries/Regions). Or you can email [email protected] and leave your contact information.
We’ll continue to watch for more updates from Shanghai Disney Resort, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news.
