Your Disney+ subscription is about to look DIFFERENT.
Disney is going to introduce a new ad-supported tier to the streaming service Disney+, and you need to choose whether to use that tier or pay extra for the ad-free option. Either way, the way we stream Disney content is about to change! Here are all the details you need to know.
Starting on December 8th, Disney+ is changing in a big way. On that day, a new ad-supported tier will come to the platform. This tier will be called Disney+ Basic and will cost $7.99/month.
Also on December 8th, the ad-free version of Disney+ (called Disney+ Premium) will get a 38% price increase. It will cost $10.99/month. Note that Hulu and ESPN+ also had price increases recently: on October 10th, Hulu Basic increased in price from $6.99/month to $7.99/month, and ad-free Hulu went from $12.99/month to $14.99/month. ESPN+ increased from $6.99/month to $9.99/month on August 23rd.
Here’s a quick breakdown of your options for Disney+ streaming and bundles available in the U.S. (starting December 8th):
Standalone plans:
- Disney+ Basic: $7.99/month
- Disney+ Premium: $10.99/month
- Hulu (with ads): $7.99/month
- Hulu (without ads): $14.99/month
- ESPN+: $9.99/month
Bundle Plans:
- Basic (with ads): Disney+, Hulu: $9.99/month
- Basic (with ads): Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+: $12.99/month
- Legacy (existing customers only): Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (with ads), ESPN+ (with ads): $14.99/month
- Premium: Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (no ads), ESPN+ (with ads): $19.99/month
Disney has announced that Disney+ Basic will have all the same content as the ad-free tier, just with advertisements added in. There will be about 4 minutes of ads for every hour of streaming content. For comparison, this is about the same amount of ads per hour as HBO Max’s ad-supported tier has, and it’s fewer than Peacock or Hulu has.
Variety reported that Disney is going to be careful not to have ads that could overshadow the service’s family-friendly environment. Disney will be cautious about running ads during shows aimed at preschool audiences, and there will be no ads at all when an individual user profile indicates that a young child is watching.

Not worth it to me….bye,bye

Just went up by $50 a year. Makes it $A11.66 p/m. Still better than Netflix. That’s $A22.99 p/m. As long as neither put adds in that’s fine.
Rob says
I can understand the price hikes due to inflation, so it doesn’t really bother me as they are reasonable. It’s all the the other stuff Disney has taken away that bothers me. Hopefully Bob Iger will restore them.

The thing that bothers me is I just want to purchase Disney+ and not the others! And from what I’m reading, you have to watch ads in order to only purchase Disney+. I dropped it because of all this confusion 2 years ago! Why are they adding on other options like ESPN I don’t watch that who cares!
