If you’re planning a Disney Cruise Line adventure, there’s an important change you need to be aware of.
Over the past several years, Disney has adjusted its COVID-19 testing and vaccination policies. At the moment, guests are not required to be vaccinated to board a Disney ship, and pre-cruise COVID-19 testing is not required for most sailings. But what if you do happen to test positive before your Disney Cruise Line sailing and want to cancel? Well, soon a bit of that policy will change.
Disney has a flexible refund policy in place as it relates to COVID-19, but an important part of that policy will change for sailings booked on or after December 9th, 2022.
The Policy For Sailings Booked BEFORE December 9th
If you book your reservation before December 9th, 2022, and you have a “qualifying COVID-19-related health concern” within 14 days of your sailing, you’ll be able to get a refund without any Disney-imposed cancellation fees. You can also opt to apply that fare toward a future cruise.
What’s a “qualifying COVID-19-related health concern?” Well, it can include having symptoms of COVID-19, having a known exposure to someone with COVID-19 in the previous 14 days, or testing positive within 14 days of the sail date.
The Policy for Sailings Booked On or After December 9th
So what happens if you book your Disney Cruise Line sailing on or after December 9th? At that point, a slightly different policy will be in place. Disney notes that for those sailings, guests who test positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of the sail date will be the ones who qualify for the refund without Disney-imposed cancellation fees.
So it appears that this is a reduction from the 14-day policy above, to a slightly shorter, 10-day policy.
Note that the FAQ from Disney’s website above does not address what happens if a person has other “COVID-19-related health concerns” (like exposure to a person with COVID-19 within the past few days) as is addressed in the flexible refund policy from before December 9th. Be sure to reach out to Disney Cruise Line with any questions about your particular situation.
