Disney, you’ve been holding out on us.
It’s been a while since MagicBand+ first premiered at Disney World, and somehow we are still discovering new things about them!
The big draw of choosing MagicBand+ over the original MagicBand was the fun interactions you unlock. From the 50th Anniversary statues to the fireworks displays at night, these new bands allow wearers to interact with the sights and sounds of the parks and get the opportunity to be even closer to the magic.
But remember, with great power comes great responsibility! (We’re pretty sure Uncle Ben was referring to MagicBands when he said that.) The main drawback to the new MagicBand+ is that they have to be recharged. Normal MagicBands work fine without a charger, but for the longest time, we were under the impression that you would have to keep your MagicBand+ charged up to use it at all. But guess what!! This is NOT the case!
Your MagicBand+ will actually function just like a normal MagicBand without being charged; only the lights and haptics require charging. This means if you don’t really care much about those added features or have already gotten your fun out of them, you don’t have to keep charging your MagicBand+ to be able to use it for things like entering the parks, getting into your resort room, paying for merchandise, or anything else the original iteration can do. Exciting, right?!

We hope this little tidbit will help save you time on your next trip, especially if you are going to Disneyland and trying out MagicBand+ there for the first time. Just keep in mind that if you do want to enjoy interactions with the statues or be a part of the evening spectaculars, make sure your MagicBand+ is charged. Otherwise, you’re good to go! Great what is like to know is if we keep it charged will it work in years to come for on ride photos, etc that’s the only reason I keep getting a new magic band each trip. Thanks!!

There is a big piece of info being left out. There’s a difference in technology between Original MagicBand, Magicband 2. And MagicBand+. All of them have the basic technology of scan & reader (tickets, lines, paying) but magicband 2 (the current one) introduced long range reading, for things like personalization of rides, names, and automatic ride photos. This used to be a finite life of your magicband 2 battery but looks to maybe be included in the charging cycle of the magicband+

Still waiting for the dining plan.

Just don’t lose your MagicBand+ charger cord! I accidentally threw mine away with other “old” cords — and haven’t found anywhere on property where just the charger cord is sold. (And I’ve looked! It’s always the same — try [insert store name], go there “oh, we must be out”)

Just want a perfectly ordinary Magic Band. No bloody 2, No bloody +, just MB.

Purchased 5 magic band+. Only one worked and only for a couple of days. We charged them every evening. Went to the lobby desk and they gave me only 1 new one, which eventually never worked. Two of them wouldn’t open our door. Definitely do not recommend buying this item.

We are going soon I’m not sure what to get I have had the normal MB but the MB+ is new for me I know the MB don’t last forever but with a charger for MB+ if we pay the extra money for them will they last forever or do they only last 2 years like Disney says the MB only last for? What would you recommend for a small child?

Just returned from a trip. In the stores at the resorts (at least the boardwalk area ones as well as Swan/Dolphin), they still sell the original magic bands alongside the MB+ (not surprisingly, they only sell MB+ at Disney Springs stores). My son couldn’t find his before the trip, so we bought a regular MB the first day at one of the hotel shops and all three of them (including the two my wife and I last used several years ago)worked great for the trip.

Do the magicband+ still work for ride photos if the rechargeable batteries die? And, if so, does that mean that we still need to replace them every 2 years in order for that internal battery to work for ride photos? Thanks!
