The expansion of high-speed rail in Florida is continuing!
Sure, we’re still disappointed that the train won’t connect Orlando International Airport directly to Disney Springs, as originally planned, but high-speed trains will soon be able to take you to other parts of Florida, including to and from the Orlando International Airport, quickly and efficiently. Now we’ve got the latest update on some stations the Brightline trains are servicing!
New Brightline train stations have opened in Florida. Brightline train stations in Boca Raton and Aventura are now OPEN. The first day of service for both stations was December 21st, 2022.
You can pick up your tickets through the official Brightline website and app. How exciting!
Just always be sure to check the Brightline website and social media accounts for any delays or interruptions that could impact your trip. For example, on January 19th, 2023, some stations were temporarily impacted by a New River Bridge issue. Be sure to check for any limitations in service ahead of your travel day and watch for updates.
South Florida now has FIVE Brightline stations (Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach), where it previously only had three.
Eventually, the train will run from Miami to Orlando, connecting those two cities sometime in 2023. The trains have already started testing at 75 mph, with speeds increasing to 110 mph — that’s fast!
The train is set to follow the Sunshine Corridor plan, which will have it connect to the exiting SunRail tracks in Orlando, head to the Orange County Convention Center, and then take a path along south International Drive.
Although the plan to have a train run directly to Disney Springs didn’t quite work out, there are still plans to put a station somewhere “near” Disney World in an area that isn’t on Disney property. So there may soon be a way to take a train to somewhere NEAR Disney World.
If it’s close enough (and cheap enough), it might make it a decent alternative for taking a rideshare or shuttle service directly from the airport. You could ultimately take the train from the airport to the station near Disney World and then grab a rideshare from there to your resort.
It hasn’t yet been revealed where that station might end up, but we’ll be sure to let you know if we see any updates. In the meantime, if you need to get from Orlando International Airport to Disney World, you can either take a rideshare or one of two shuttle services: MEARS Connect and The Sunshine Flyer.
As we mentioned above, keep in mind that the Brightline terminal in the Orlando International Airport is scheduled to open sometime in 2023. You can click here to see a video sneak peek of the new space!
