Earlier we reported that Disney Legend and iconic journalist Barbara Walters passed away at age 93.
Walters left behind a major legacy with the programs that she worked on and impacted the lives of many as she reported on so many important events throughout her long career. Many are now stepping up to share their tributes to the famed journalist, and among those is the current Walt Disney Company CEO.
Deadline has shared Disney CEO Bob Iger’s touching comments about Barbara Walters after her passing. “Barbara was a true legend, a pioneer not just for women in journalism but for journalism itself,” said Iger. “She was a one-of-a-kind reporter who landed many of the most important interviews of our time, from heads of state to the biggest celebrities and sports icons.”
Way back in the day, Iger worked as a crew member for Walters. Perhaps that time spent together is what inspired him to dedicate the ABC News HQ at 47 West 66th Street in NYC to her in May 2014. In an email to staff today, he said “I had the pleasure of calling Barbara a colleague for more than three decades, but more importantly, I was able to call her a dear friend.”
Iger added that Walters would be missed at The Walt Disney Company and went on to offer condolences to her daughter, Jacqueline. The tribute was later posted on social media, along with many others from celebrities and people in the media world.
Barbara Walters’ impact on journalism will certainly be remembered for a long time.
