Have you ever thought about extending your Disney World trip to spend some time seeing more of Florida?
There’s more to see and do than just the theme parks, especially once you leave Orlando. We’ve been covering the development of the Brightline high speed rail coming to the Orlando International Airport — and now we’ve got a first look at what that station will look like!
A brand-new train line is premiering soon and its first stop is Orlando International Airport! The new station from Brightline will connect 170 miles of track from Central to South Florida, cutting travel time in half when you take the train from Orlando to Miami. The new terminal at the airport is part of Brightline’s Phase 2 expansion into Central Florida and will eventually include a Tampa extension. Hello Busch Gardens!
Want to head south from Orlando Airport? There will be an all-new Brightline station where you can enjoy a ton of amenities before your journey. From a grab-and-go market with tasty snacks, to a fully-stocked cocktail bar, to a swanky private lounge, there is plenty to keep you relaxed and happy before you board your train. Travelers can then enjoy a stress-free (and traffic-free!) ride to the destination of their choice, be that West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, or somewhere in between.
This isn’t the only train project under construction in Central Florida! The Orlando Business Journal reports that Universal has pumped a fair amount of cash into the Sunshine Corridor project, which is in charge of the Sunrail trains. Universal is planning on financing up to $125 million in private bonds to build as well as maintain an Orange County Convention Center station. Having a station at the Convention Center, which is only 4 miles from Universal and 10 miles from Disney and is surrounded by hotels, would make it even easier for travelers to head straight to their accommodation from the airport.
This is all good news for future Florida tourists! Trains are another option for getting to your final destination, and hopefully will reduce traffic as well as provide a faster alternative to driving or rideshares. Especially with the loss of the Magical Express, we could see trains become a popular choice for theme park guests who are coming from Orlando International Airport.
We don’t know the exact date, but the airport train terminal is scheduled to open in 2023. Want to learn more about the new Brightline terminal at the airport? Check out their newly-released video below!

Too bad that it won’t be connected to the Amtrak station as well. My family doesn’t like to fly and we always go to WDW by train. The worst part of the trip is getting to and from the Amtrak station.
