Let’s face it — sometimes things in Disney World aren’t always so magical. Sometimes, things go wrong.
Bad weather can shut down rides. Sometimes rides just don’t work right. Sometimes rides are temporarily closed due to technical issues. Whatever the case, if you’ve paid to ride an attraction that closes before you have a chance to ride it, what happens then?Â
Genie+
If you purchase Genie+ and have used it to book a time to ride an attraction and that attraction goes down, you’ll get what’s called a multi-experience redemption that’s good for other rides (although some may be excluded, unless it was the ride you’d already booked for).
So, for example, let’s say you’ve booked Peter Pan’s Flight in Magic Kingdom through Genie+ and you’re just about to hop into the Lightning Lane when a Cast Member informs you that the ride is currently closed. You’ll get a multi-experience pass that you can use later at Peter Pan’s Flight or other rides in Magic Kingdom.
However, if you’re already in a ride’s Lightning Lane and have scanned in, you’ll need to go to Guest Relations to get the multi-experience pass. As always, if you have any questions, it’s always a good idea to talk with Guest Relations, who can answer any and all your questions.
Here’s A Step-By-Step Guide to Using Disney Genie+
Individual Lightning Lane
Lighting Lanes for select Disney World rides are not available through Genie+, but instead, have what’s called the Individual Lighting Lane option, meaning you pay a certain amount per ride for those attractions. If you happen to find yourself with an Individual Lighting Lane ride that closes, you’ll get an “experience redemption,” which is basically a boarding pass that lets you ride that attraction at any time of the day after it reopens.
For example, let’s say you pay for the Individual Lightning Lane option for Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios. The ride goes down, so you’re not able to ride it during the time you were told to return. You’ll get that experience redemption and can just go back later to the ride once it opens again.
But what happens if the ride doesn’t reopen at any point during that day? Then you qualify for a refund, BUT you’ll need to ask for it. Make your way to Guest Relations and ask for a refund if the ride does not reopen or if it’s announced that the ride will be closed for the rest of the day. HOWEVER, if the ride does reopen, you do not qualify for a refund.
How Many Rides Can We Do in a Day With Genie+ and Pay-Per-Ride in Disney World?
So if something does go wrong with your Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lane selections, now you know what to expect in return. As we previously said, though, if you ever have any questions or concerns, go talk to Guest Relations and they’ll get everything worked out for you.

Nothing but a mess, the lines at guest relations for these problems are massive and they cant even handle it. Why should you have to ask and fight your way for a refund, it should apply automatically if an attraction goes down. I wonder how many charge card bank disputes are being filed against disney. its nothing but a headache and people are getting fed up.

When we were there around Thanksgiving we got an extra experience redemption because apparently Tower of Terror went down right after we rode it. We didn’t ask for it because we had rode it but all of a sudden we noticed we received one. Got an extra ride in on Toy Story Mania as we headed to get into line before park close for Rise!!!
