We’ve got good news from Magic Kingdom!
In December, it was announced that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad would be closing for a brief refurbishment in January. If you’ve been looking forward to your trip later this month and were crossing your fingers the refurb wouldn’t drag on, you’re in luck — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened today!
The ride had a set closure from January 9th through January 13th — that means the ride is back and open for business as of January 14th!
The line was long all day and was at a 75-minute wait by the time we stopped by to check it out.
This is one of the most popular rides in Magic Kingdom, so we’re excited to see it reopen! This comes at a good time since its next-door neighbor Splash Mountain is closing next weekend.
There are other rides that are also currently closed in Disney, so be sure you’re familiar with them before embarking on your trip. As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news!

I was at MK on January 13, and noticed that they’d opened up Big Thunder around time for the evening fireworks. I don’t know if it had opened earlier that day or not, but we were able to ride it twice before the lines got long! It was extra Pixie Dust to catch it at the end of our trip.
