A lot of changes are happening at Disneyland Resort!
Splash Mountain will soon be getting a makeover, a new restaurant is coming, and Mickey’s Toontown is being reimagined. While the reimagined land needs a little more time to be fully completed, a new attraction is opening soon in the land — Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway! And, we just found out more about what you can expect from the ride when it opens.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will use a virtual queue when it opens in Disneyland Park on January 27th. This is the only way you will be able to get on the ride — there will be NO standby line.
The times that you’ll be able to join the virtual queue through the Disneyland app will be at 7AM and 1PM daily. There will also be individual Lightning Lanes that you can purchase to get on the ride, but both those and the virtual queue have limited availability and can fill up. Unlike the individual Lightning Lane, the virtual queue is free to join.
The virtual queue sounds similar to the one we’ve seen used in the past for popular rides like Rise of the Resistance, and the one that is currently being used for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in Disney World.
This ride is Mickey and Minnie’s first ever ride that they’re starring in at Disneyland Resort. It will be located inside the El CapiTOON Theatre in Disneyland park and is a family-friendly experience. The ride will transport you into the cartoon world of Mickey and Minnie via a train engineered by Goofy!
There is already a Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney World at Hollywood Studios, which you can find out more about right here.
One more quick update you’ll need to know about the Disneyland ride: According to Scott Gustin, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will close during fireworks shows at Disneyland. When the park closes at 11PM or later, the ride will reopen after the show. When the park closes at 10PM, the ride will no reopen.
📌Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will close during pyro (same as north side of park) and reopen on nights the park closes at 11pm or later. When park has pyro and closes at 10pm, it will not reopen.

Rebecca Burmesch says
What is the benefit of having a virtual queue besides just reserving a place in line? Why not just have stand by and lightning lane (also thinking back to FastPass) like other rides? Those rides seem to manage fine.
