The highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run roller coaster will open in Magic Kingdom on April 4th, 2023, but that’s not the only TRON news from Disney!
The company is working on another installment of the TRON movies, and now we have an update on the sequel.
According to Deadline, Disney is officially moving forward with Tron: Ares, the sequel to Tron: Legacy. Disney is apparently in “early negotiations” to have Joachim Rønning direct and Jared Leto star.
The movie is expected to begin production in August in Vancouver. Rønning also worked with Disney on Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The Disney sci-fi franchise films began in 1982 with Jeff Bridges starring in the first installment. The next movie (Tron: Legacy) was finished in 2010, starring Bridges, Garret Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde. The script for the new film will be written by Jesse Wigutow. with Sean Bailey and Sam Dickerman as execs and Justin Springer, Leto, Jeffrey Silver, and Leto’s Paradox partner Emma Ludbrook as producers.
We’ll keep watching for more updates from Disney, so stay tuned for all the latest news!
